Thanks for sharing that! Those are the stories I love hearing. It's even better that it started with family reunions because you have those happy memories associated with the hobby now too. You mentioned a lot of great games - you have me itching to try ones like #Power Grid and #7 Wonders even more now.

Ahh Candy Land, the ultimate gateway game haha.

#Magic: The Gathering seems really cool, I've never played it but I've had a lot of friends who were into it as well. It's cool that you got to play in tournaments! I relate on #Catan for sure - honestly it was probably what turned me away from board games for a long time, but in retrospect I think some of it had to do with the groups I played with in the past. Much better experiences more recently.

That's funny, I actually bought #Sheriff of Nottingham as a gift for someone too! I believe I got #Dominion: Second Edition as a gift for one of my friends as well. I didn't even know what they were at the time so I was just going off of the fact that they had been talking about both games for a while. I only played them once or twice but now I want to go back and ask those friends to try them again!

That's great that you have a large group that all enjoys games! I imagine that between everyone, you have all the bases covered from solo to party games which is really cool.

That's encouraging to hear about your wife being supportive of the hobby too! My wife is the same right now - she really was not into games at all but she's been going out of her way to try them with me since I got into it recently and I'm very appreciative.

TMB is definitely influencing my tastes right now haha. That's cool that you enjoy those things as well! I have been looking for a decently priced listing of Elder Sign actually so with your recommendation I think I'll be moving it higher up on my wishlist!

It was not easy to fit everything haha. The box is ALMOST closed completely but slightly lifted on one side. I'm convinced there's no way to get it perfect.

I think the shift into heavier games came from the group of guys I mentioned who invited me recently. Most of my previous exposure was with people who played a ton of party games, so having a new group that's into heavy titles introduced me to a whole new world and it's been a lot of fun. It probably helps that I already like heavy and challenging video games too.

I haven't tried them yet, but after looking into them they both sound like games I'd really enjoy. I've gotten multiple recommendations on both from a lot of people.

Hey all! Really enjoying being part of this community. I'll jump right into the questions:

1. I was introduced to BGA by and . They invited me to a game night a few weeks ago and recommended this site.

2. I've played board games for years, but I only started getting more serious about it (playing heavier games for the first time) about a month ago.

3. At the moment, my favorite games are #Betrayal at the House on the Hill, #Too Many Bones, and #Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion. Subject to change really soon as I keep trying a bunch of awesome new games!

Right now I'm really enjoying games with RPG elements, co-op, and dice, but I'm honestly open to trying anything to refine my tastes in board games.

True! Someone else had mentioned TMB to me a few weeks before and it stayed at the edge of my awareness for a little while. I just needed the enabler ;) Gloomhaven appears at the top of most game rankings so that one was just hard to ignore when I first started looking into games. Finding an affordable sale was all I needed!

Bought this game cheap to try with my wife, she surprises me by saying "GASP! I love this game!" Fun time and won on our first "Novice" attempt

Thank you! I wanted to essentially jump in the deep end and I wasn't disappointed!
