Bling those games
For discussing blinging the components of your games.
I wasn't a huge fan of the insert for #Viticulture: Essential Edition, and GameNerdz has started carrying Folded Space inserts, so I decided to try one out. I'm impressed! It was fairly easy to put together, it's very light, and makes setup and teardown easier and much more enjoyable than it was with the stock insert.
There are slots for all of the cards, and removable trays for the coins and for the player tokens. Each player gets their own tray, so you can just pass them out and they are ready to go! I cannot verify it, as I only have the base game, but supposedly this insert can accommodate the expansions as well. As you can see, there is still plenty of room for more cards, and there is also room for a board(s?) on the far right (on the other side of the visitor cards).
Overall I'm very happy with this insert! It's much more reasonably priced than Broken Token or similar wooden inserts, and it's easier and lighter as well.
I'm a sucker for upgrading my games. I love metal coins and heavy pieces! Scythe may be my most upgraded game as I have all the metal coins and all the upgraded resources. I am thinking about getting the metal mechs but they are pretty expensive. I also have the giant box that fits all the Scythe expansions. I pretty much nerded out on that one.
I finally traded for the Exosuit Commander Pack for Anachrony. This one is expensive but having played the game several times now the exosuits are SO much better for the game than the cardboard exosuits.
I hope to get the bird nest egg holder for wingspan and the upgraded wingspan food tokens. We play that game quite a bit. The problem I will inevitably have at that point is fitting it in the box.
We are only about 4-5 scenarios into our five player Gloomhaven campaign and I am considering surprising the guys with Gloomhaven 3D upgrades. I like the idea or the 3D aspect it will add to the board.
I have the Collectors version of Everdell with the nice resource pieces and they are awesome (one of my favorite game component upgrades). I'm hoping to get the nice coins for Dinosaur Island as I was not able to get the deluxe version when it came out.
I'm weird about inserts, as in, I want them. Cardboard trenches and baggies do nothing for me. I want to be able to set up a game and play as quick as possible. That said, what do you do for inserts?
I've made foam core ones before, and they're fine, but they just take so long.
On the other hand, buying them online feels like a waste of money because I could just make them myself?
What are y'all's go-tos, if any, for inserts?
I'm curious what y'all keep around to bling out your games. I am specifically talking about stuff that is not for one specific game. For example I keep some organizing aids (baggies, plano boxes, etc) around. I also keep small Styrofoam adhesive dots around. I put them in the inside of a few of my game boxes to keep the lid more securely fastened.
What do you keep around for your games? Poker chips? Metal coins? Or?
In a perfect world all games would come with functional and beautiful inserts. We, however, do not live in a perfect world. What do y'all use to help you bring order to the chaos that can exist in a game box?
