Orleans: Invasion board game

Orleans: Invasion, the first large expansion for the award-winning game "Orleans", contains six scenarios, new buildings, and several new event-cards. The scenarios were designed by Reiner Stockhausen and Inka & Markus Brand:

"Prosperity": A classic expansion for 2-5 players including new buildings and introducing the carpenter, designed by Inka and Markus Brand.

"Invasion": A co-operative scenario for 2-5 players in which the players have to fend off an invasion and fulfill personal goals to win, designed by Inka and Markus Brand.
"The Duel": A scenario for two players in which both opponents have to complete four objectives to win, designed by Reiner Stockhausen.

In addition, Orleans: Invasion contains three solo-challenges by Reiner Stockhausen.

"The Dignitary": is a solo scenario in which you are an important dignitary trying to gather as many citizens as possible.

"Capital Vierzon": is another solo scenario challenging you to develop Vierzon to become the capital of its region.
"Travelling Salesman": the solo player plays the role of a salesman travelling through the country and delivering valuable goods to the farthest of places.

  • April 2020-I played the first and easiest solo scenario, I won it early, but as I enjoy the game I finished out the rest of the game. It was really fun to play the game and watch things unfold. I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to be able to complete the task, but as soon as you get a good bag going it all happens without issue. I am excited to play the invasion scenario after this pandemic is over.February 2020$25 BoardGameCo

  • Wary of my rating because we pulled a win out of nowhere. That euphoric feeling my be ltering my judgement. HOWEVER, I think if we had just MISSED rather than just WON it would have still been the same level of the type of emotions that I enjoy - the we-were-so-close-on-what-feels-like-an-impossible-task feeling.I love that when I was explaining what the new actions do, everyone looked at the bottom one and said collectively, "Well, I am never going to use that." However, it was used 8 times in the last 3 rounds and was clearly the thing that gave us the win.
  • Eh. A slightly elaborated-upon solo mode that many euro-management games have.

Nice variety of games this week:

  • #Western Legends with #Western Legends: Ante Up (TTS, Multiplayer): I've played this game quite a few times and quite enjoyed it.  I love just picking a style and going for it.  This time around I was a marshall and had a great game with a runaway win.  Definitely a fun game I'd play anytime.  Next game I'm going to try being a miner/gambler to see how I do!
  • #Heroes of Land, Air, & Sea (TTS, Multiplayer): First ime playing this game.  Definitely RTS in a board game format.  Loved it!  First game for all of us was interesting.  I learned some of the subtleties to the gameplay and can't wait to give it another shot!
  • #Just One (x2, Physical, Multiplayer): Had a socially distanced evening outside with some friends.  Just one seemed like a good game to play and it was definitely a hit!
  • #Orléans with #Orleans: Invasion (x2, Physical, Solo): Played one of the solo missions from Invasiion a couple of times.  I nearly managed to get all 5 objectives in time but didn't quite do it.  I think a third crack at it might have done the trick but I ran out of time.  My main complaint for this game is the buildings.  If you play it enough and study the buildings you can create a massive advantage over other players who haven't.  Especially with the expansions etc there are a ton of buildings and they are all available in a stock game.  I think next time I play with my group I'm going to try the variant where only a few buildings per level are available for purchase at a time to see if that helps a bit. I still really enjoy the game but that one area needs a little tweak.
