As far as solitaire designs are concerned, I was incredibly impressed with some of VPG's offerings, namely Nemo's War and Disaster on Everest (Darkest Night, not so much, but that remains to be seen). Cruel Necessity is a very interesting design, filled with tension, some history (not that the game is educational, but that it PRODS one to seek education -- which is the way it should be), and no small degree of difficult decisions. This one probably won't be leaving the collection anytime soon, if ever.
Working on through the rules and playing my first game today. Ricky Royal video is a really great help on this one. There is lots of dice rolling, which makes it feel like a death by a thousand cuts.
