New Generation of Gateway Games - What's the Trend?
Gateway games—whether we agree or not on the proper terminology, I'm talking about games that have the greatest potential to accommodate a wide range of audience who are new to the hobby. And while some of the most commonly played gateway games of the past were Catan and Carcassonne, the gamers of today have Azul, Tiny Towns, The Quacks of Quedlinburg, PARKS, and so much more. So what are the elements that make up this new generation of gateway games? In this recent review, Trent walks through the commonalities among these games and shows why he believes The Whatnot Cabinet will fall under the same category.
Kickstarters
Here are some cool projects we're helping to spread the word. First, we have AdapTableTop which passed the $250K mark this week and won't be slowing down any time soon. These "accessory-type" tabletop Kickstarters are often a hit and if you need a modular solution to expand your limited tabletop space while also preventing food hazards, make sure to check out the campaign. Next, Obsidia qualified for the COVID-19 extension and earned just enough of a breathing room to reach their funding goal this week! At the time when this newsletter goes out, you'll only have 24 hours left to get on this dark fantasy game of tile placement and area control. And as mentioned before, you can try it out on Tabletop Simulator before you pledge!

Five Board Game Tragedies
For this week's "Things Found on the Web," I have two types of content that are both likely going to be hit or miss for some of you. First, here's a fun video to start your day with at least one relatable tragedy on your tabletop.
No Pun Included Plays D&D (ft. Paul Dean, Formerly of Shut Up & Sit Down)
The image of Paul in the Cuddle Room is forever burned onto my eyes. That's not what I'm here to talk about though, and Shut Up & Sit Down fans who have sorely missed Paul's presence will love seeing him in his natural habitat, exercising a stretch of the imaginations in great company. If anything, I just love that NPI is using their platform to introduce many board gamers to another major part of our hobby world.

I prefer the games that make it to the table most often. For the gamers in my group that means #Gloomhaven. For the non-gamers, #Cosmic Encounter and #One Night Ultimate Werewolf. I think I would put the $200 towards #Cloudspire or an epic, story-driven game like #Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood.
