Western Legends gets better the more you play it.  Typical to these sand boxy style games the table does have to do a bit of balancing as one player left alone can dominate.

I just love how the story twists and turns as you usually have a plan but you also have to be flexible with it.  In our last game I started off wanting to be a sheriff as I was wanted the previous time. I did do quite well as the sheriff but I also took advantage of several poker hand victories as the cards and table state just made it something I couldn't pass up.

Concordia is one of my all time favourites.  I have most of the boards and both expansions.  For me it plays better at more players but 2 is apparently well liked on the right map.  I think there is a "heat map" out there of best boards at player counts that might be worth looking for.

I'm the same way about SM. I've been looking at Plan B games too since I enjoy Century: Spice RoadAzul, and Reef. They all allow me to enjoy good strategy decision making while still being easy to bring to the table with newer gamers.

Isn't Plan B games the same crew that owned Plaid Hat games (bought by asmodee a few years back?). If so, then a model of starting great boardgame brands and selling to Asmodee doesn't seem to be such a bad model for them haha!

It's... complicated but I think you're thinking of F2Z Entertainment?

  1. F2Z Entertainment owned Z-Man Games, Filosofia Editions, Pretzel Games, and Plaid Hat Games
  2. Asmodee eventually acquired F2Z Entertainment
  3. Former president of F2Z Entertainment started Plan B Games
  4. Pretzel Games went to Plan B and no longer under F2Z Entertainment
  5. Asmodee acquires Plan B Games

Edit: Looks like the "winner" here is the former head of F2Z/head of Plan B

Intuition for me. I usually have a plan but I'm not going to make sure it's always the "best most optimal" move every time. Goes back to the competitive question posted. I hate playing with people in person who have AP cause it totally takes me out of the experience. One of Sarah's friends is like that and I just cannot play more than lighter party games with her haha.

I do know someone who uses an actual calculator though..looking at you :P
