I was on the phone with about 40 different users, creators, and other board game influencers listening to both of what their biggest gripes and aspirations are for the board game industry. The result of all the time I spent with them was a much larger understanding of the frustrations with what is currently missing and a massive vision for what could be in the future.

After the dedicated research time, my fingers began furiously flying across my keyboard to write a lot of code to improve the 5CC board game platform. Here's the highlights of the newest changes.

Revamped Front Page

Some obvious things that came out of our discussions was how content creators and influencers are the backbone of the board game industry. So we wanted to reflect that reality with a new front page that highlights both the contributions of creators and the board game database we've built. 5CC Board Game Front Page

The page now highlights news, a featured game, new game reviews, new videos, kickstarters, and trending games. We're working to continually improve this and grow it to reflect the best parts of the board game community.

Board Game Geek User Data Importing

We spoke to quite a few users who just don't want to do the work of creating yet another set of board game lists. They already have wishlists and other things on a lot of other sites. So we built a super simple import tool to bring your lists over from Board Game Geek. We're seeing if there's interest in doing something similar for Amazon and other retailers so let us know if that's interesting to you! image

Go to the BGG Import tool here.

Price Transparency

As we've been building partnerships with different online retailers the various ways we collect the price data and catalog is different for each site. Some connections allow us to get updated price and stock data every 10 minutes and others take a full 24 hours (or sometimes more if something goes wrong).

5CC Board Game Price Updates

We wanted to give full visibility to both build your confidence and motivate us to build clever solutions to get the data. It'll show you the last updated time when you hover over the price.

Other Improvements

We've also added many other features as well that we're quite proud of.

  • Game now have a developers and a primary publisher.
  • Our Board Game Developer API now has a lot data for the board games and can link to online retailers connected to our system.
  • We launched a content creator Partner Program to highlight and work with the influencers in board games. It's completely free.
  • Users can now edit their reviews.
  • If you weren't sure if you've already added a game to a list, don't worry, it'll show you what lists it's already on
  • We added in a simple Play Log system with a couple new graphs to see your data

As always, we're continuing to relentlessly focus on building the best platform for board games that we possibly can. Please reach out and message us with any feature requests you have!
