8 for competitive play5 for solo play - tooooooo frustrating at least for me
Good fun game, establishing trade routes. Just takes a long time is all.
Man, am I glad I have a copy of the original. I haven't tried the "classic" version (which is not identical to the original, and the changes seem for the worse), but the new "standard" version is a serious downgrade. Standard "draw a card and something crazy happens" nonsense. Techs are silly and unbalanced (the fuzzy dice are an obvious offender). It's also the case that 30 turns is an awkward time frame; it often results in too little being discovered. Played swiftly, the original was not overlong, so I don't see why they needed to fix this. The graphic design is overly busy and altogether distracting. I was not a huge fan of the original's graphics, and I was looking forward to keeping the newer version for its improved components--but having now used the new version, I don't think I will.
