Don't Mess with Cthulhu

Don't Mess with Cthulhu is a social deduction game with secret identities. Players are either Investigators trying to keep Cthulhu from waking and controlling the world, or Cultists that want to bring the world to a disturbing end.

The game takes place over four rounds. The Investigators must uncover all the Elder Signs to win; the Cultists win when Cthulhu is revealed or if the game ends before all the Elder Signs are discovered.

  • I think this one is fun for a fast, easy to teach game for a smaller group that has a chance to grow into a larger group. Once you get into the higher player counts, I would rather go to Avalon, or Secret Hitler or something similar but with more meat.
  • I'm not a fan of the deception games but this one is decent. It has the whole Resistance vibe but is a little simpler to follow the logic and I felt like I had more control of the outcome than I usually do in Resistance. It's hard to win with only one cultist though (5 player) and I wonder if it wouldn't be better to always have two.
  • This is my favorite deduction game, by far. We have already nearly played my copy to death. Luckily, two people I play with just picked up copies. I don't see this one falling off at this point. Easily the least fragile of all social deduction games, and I love that it often forces both good and bad guys to lie.
  • Timebomb is hilarious. It's more social than deduction and you know what, that's just fine. This retheme is questionable but at least it's well produced. All hidden role games should use more tiles.
