Path of Light and Shadow

The Realms lay divided, their former wonder lost and forgotten. The Tyrant Queen has seized the throne, forcing the rightful heirs deep into exile. You are the sons and daughters of the once-great houses: Foxway, Gorga, Mherzeen, and Spyre. Under the tutelage of advisors, you have gathered your followers, your conscripts. The time has come to take back what is yours.

Path of Light and Shadow is a massive empire-building experience, combining area control, deck management, and civilization customization. As players vie for control of The Realms, they must enlist and promote supporters, outfit their burgeoning empire with powerful technologies, align with powerful leaders, and lay siege to rival exiles after the throne. Above all else, each player must decide what type of leader they will become, cruel or merciful. But choose wisely, for each path has its rewards and perils.

  • Only got one play in so far, but it was a real hit for me. The area control was present but not all consuming, the deckbuilding was great and the empire building was a lot of fun. Only downside is that you really need to decide whether to focus on a small deck or a large deck strategy. I don't think there's really a viable strategy for going in the middle. If this was addressed with an expansion that would be amazing.

I have a ton of games on my wish list, and routinely watch for sales opportunities, but the ones listed on my personal priority list will be purchased as soon as they are available, and the ones on my gift list I don't want to spend the money for but would love to have.

I don't own a lot of DB games, but I have one I really like. It's called #Path of Light and Shadow and it was a Kickstarter by Indie Boards and Cards. I don't think it got to retail, unfortunately , but it's an amazing game that mixes deck building with tech trees and area control.
