Doppelt so clever follows the model of 2018's Ganz schön clever. Each turn the active player rolls six dice, chooses one of them to mark off a space on their scoring grid, places any dice with lower numbers on the side, then re-rolls any remaining dice. The white die is a joker and can be used as any one of the other five colors. After the active player chooses at most three dice, then the other players chooses one of the set-aside dice for use on their scoring sheet.

Doppelt so clever has five new dice-marking challenges and a new action beyond the re-roll and "use one more die" actions of the earlier game.

  • It’s a variation of the That’s Pretty Clever, and it’s pretty good yet doesn’t feel quite as fresh as the original. It’s more complex but less organic. Fun but not essential. And it suffers the same issue as Ganz in that after a while it gets redundant and you’re playing the same game with a limit on progress and higher scores.
  • 6/15/20 | Sold on FB Marketplace.Lost my attention quickly. Fine for 15 minutes of fun.6/17/20 | 8 plays | 6/10 | This is, from what I can tell in my limited experience, a good roll and write. There are plenty of decisions to be made and ways to use various die results and powerups. Still, I find myself not too hot on it. It gets repetitive quickly and lacks any type of theme. I am curious to try out more roll and writes to see if it's the genre or just this specific game that doesn't quite appeal to me.
  • Half as fun.

Aside from the two games mentioned in the review, I've gotten to play #Saint Malo and #Twice As Clever. I no longer own either, but I do still play Clever via app. I was curious about #On Tour (Second Edition) .

Bless you for doing this again! These are fun. Here are my last five/top five:

#Yedo Board Game

#Sorcerer City

#Twice As Clever

#Margraves of Valeria

#Funkoverse Strategy Game: Back to the Future

I think I like aspects of all of them. I love a good AI (i.e. #Rurik: Dawn of Kiev, #Scythe, etc.). And games like #Twice As Clever where I try to beat a score is also good. But, I don't always like beat your own score games. I think story, for me, might be my favorite. But a good AI is always a pleasure.
