Based on the best-selling novel series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition lets 3-6 players take control of the great houses of Westeros in an epic struggle to claim the Iron Throne.

The updated second edition brings a host of enhancements to your A Game of Thrones experience. It incorporates elements from previous expansions, including ports, garrisons, Wildling cards, and Siege engines, while introducing welcome new innovations. Convenient player screens will hide your underhanded dealings from prying eyes, while new Tides of Battle cards convey the uncertainty of war. This, along with updated graphics and a clarified ruleset, means the time has never been better to claim the Iron Throne.

  • Extremely difficult to explain to new players. Even after learning the rules, instead of actually playing the game you'll find yourself spending severally minutes at a time just skimming the rulebook to see if you can do something that you want to do. That said, I love Game of Thrones and this game does an amazing job at immersing you into Westeros. The immersion alone keeps bringing me back.
  • Read the book.Watch HBO.But ...Play this game via forum only. It's perfect for forum play with all the backstabbing that is hard to negotiate while you sit beside the table.
  • I am 50% sure that you are playing with the right group if you don't like this game...If you want to try this tackle it as an experience and set 1 hole day for it you will not be dissapointed.
  • I played this for the first time today. I have played the 1st ed about a dozen times and really dig it. This game not so much. We've always finished the first one in close to three hours. It's quite straight forward and elegant.. But all the additional add-ons and extra rules really made this edition drag. Over six hours today..

I have not but it looks intriguing. So if you're not really into the Game of Thrones books or TV show, you will probably not like #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition. The game itself is not very fun or balanced. There's too many rules and potential for hurt feelings. BUT as a huge GoT fan, the immersion the game provides is amazing.

I have heard lots of good things about #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition! I've actually been interested in #Battle for Rokugan, which some people have described as a sort of slimmed down version of Game of Thrones. Have you played that one?

1. Someone from Reddit suggested visiting BGA for board game price history and sales. Ended up staying for everything else this site has to offer.

2. Technically I started as a kid. I was infatuated with #Monopoly, #Sorry!, and #Risk. My interest died as I had no one to play with then I started getting serious again while I was in college about 7 years ago.

3. #Terraforming Mars #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition #Eldritch Horror

I would really love to play #Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, #Crusader Kings: The Boardgame, or #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition more, but unfortunately with covid I've been restricted from boardgaming for a while :( - a downside of having a 'hands-on' hobby.

You're right to be intriguied by TI4 though, it's great, hope you can get to play it sometime!

I have a hard time getting #Root to the table (not enough player count) but maybe if I start soloing it really often! It's currently the most likely candidate after #Atlantis Rising (second edition) and #Architects of the West Kingdom. Probably not until next year though, since I'll go for upgrading my favorite games with metal coins first.

Since you mentioned about #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition, how do you feel about #A War of Whispers? I think I've heard that it supposedly gives a similar experience in a fraction of the time.

I actually have the two separate dual-sided #Root neoprene mats for all four of their distinct maps. I highly recommend them. They aboslutely make the game a better experience to play. I also have a mat for #A Game of Thrones:.  The Board Game Second Edition. However, I will caveat my opinion by saying I would only ever consider a mat for a game that I either play fairly regularly (in the case of Root), or is a separate special occassion sort of game. For GoT, we only play the game once a year with a select group of 8 players. It is a very satisfying way to class up the table when its huge game that holds a special place in your collection.

I've not read a whole lot into #Chinatown or #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition, but I am definitely keen on #Root and #Dune (root was a close second for my giveaway pick) for those very reasons, I love making deals although I am sadly trusted so little in my board game groups, it's not like I've tended to betray them in the past or anything....

I have many fond memories of Mario kart and star wars battlefront in my own or someone else's living room as a kid! I really want to play the new Mount and blade game that came out not long ago. I sunk so many hours exploring mount and blade: war band and absolutely loved it as a sandbox.

Ah, gotcha. Sounds like you'd like games like #Chinatown, #A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition, and #Dune. You'd probably enjoy #Root especially with the Riverfolk or other factions with kits focused on interaction with other players!

As for video games--same here lol. I really enjoy the couch co-op/competitive experience when the chance does arrive, but that's only like once or twice a year. Is there a particular game you'd like to dive into when the upgrade happens?
