Dune: Imperium is a game that finds inspiration in elements and characters from the Dune legacy, both the new film from Legendary Pictures and the seminal literary series from Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson.

As a leader of one of the Great Houses of the Landsraad, raise your banner and marshal your forces and spies. War is coming, and at the center of the conflict is Arrakis – Dune, the desert planet.

Dune: Imperium uses deck-building to add a hidden-information angle to traditional worker placement.

You start with a unique leader card, as well as deck identical to those of your opponents. As you acquire cards and build your deck, your choices will define your strengths and weaknesses. Cards allow you to send your Agents to certain spaces on the game board, so how your deck evolves affects your strategy. You might become more powerful militarily, able to deploy more troops than your opponents. Or you might acquire cards that give you an edge with the four political factions represented in the game: the Emperor, the Spacing Guild, the Bene Gesserit, and the Fremen.

Unlike many deck-building games, you don’t play your entire hand in one turn. Instead, you draw a hand of cards at the start of every round and alternate with other players, taking one Agent turn at a time (playing one card to send one of your Agents to the game board). When it’s your turn and you have no more Agents to place, you’ll take a Reveal turn, revealing the rest of your cards, which will provide Persuasion and Swords. Persuasion is used to acquire more cards, and Swords help your troops fight for the current round’s rewards as shown on the revealed Conflict card.

Defeat your rivals in combat, shrewdly navigate the political factions, and acquire precious The Spice Must Flow cards to lead your House to victory!

Not exactly, but we do have quite a few new games to play anyway, haha. I'm expecting a couple of preorders to come in this month ( #Dune: Imperium and #Dale of Merchants all in pledge), I just received #Innovation from a family secret Santa, and a few weeks back, I won #Underwater Cities in a Gleam giveaway from BGA! Oh and I also picked up #Villagers on Black Friday, haha. I think we're going to give Underwater Cities a shot tonight! I played it solo once, but haven't played multiplayer yet.

I'm slightly overwhelmed at the number of unplayed games I have/will have soon, all of a sudden.

Haha, I suspect mine won't have shifted that much by then as I may not get to play any of the new games I'm awaiting more than once or twice. That said, I fully expect both #Dale of Merchants and #Dune: Imperium to be in the top 10 eventually :)

The new #Dune: Imperium is getting good reviews, Rahdo even liked it with 2 players. Adding it to my wishlist.

Man oh man do I want to play #Dune: Imperium and the upgrade pack looks amazing. Sadly my wife is not a fan of Dune so it wouldn't hit the table much. I just gotta find some local friends who love Dune and see if they can pick this up!

Do it! I have messaged them on facebook a couple of times with questions, which is actually how I ended up preorder #Dune: Imperium. They're pretty responsive if you do that.

I could see #Dune making my Top 10! I don't have a group for it though so it'll be a while until I find out. I like what I've seen of #Dune: Imperium so far and I'm looking forward to trying it out with Trent. Glad to say that the playthrough looked a whole lot more promising than I thought it would. I wonder how often your group will want to play Dune vs. Dune Imperium too.

I was trying to recall your Top 5 games and I actually got it right! lol (I typed it out to ask but noticed you had them listed when I hovered over your username)

I like this question! Hmm, I could see #Dale of Merchants and #Dune: Imperium breaking in. I kinda think they'll end up in top 10 territory and not top 5, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

I mean yes! I think if they did something like#Dune: Imperium where they made a unique Game around familiar mechanics and the Star Wars IP I would be down!

Did not expect to be up that high, haha. Cool! Good luck, everyone! As cool as it would be to win, I'm personally rooting for some new users to win!

Of all the games mentioned, I'm most interested in #Dune: Imperium (which I've pre-ordered), and #Inis.
