Elder Sign is a fast-paced, cooperative dice game of supernatural intrigue for one to eight players by Richard Launius and Kevin Wilson, the designers of Arkham Horror. Players take the roles of investigators racing against time to stave off the imminent return of the Ancient One. Armed with tools, allies, and occult knowledge, investigators must put their sanity and stamina to the test as they adventure to locate Elder Signs, the eldritch symbols used to seal away the Ancient Ones and win the game.

  • Wonderful game! Beautiful artwork, not too complicated to learn, and has the Lovecraft atmosphere in spades. And best of all, I can play it solo if I want. Highly recommended.
  • --Oct2011-- Not a lot of deadtime; pretty good theme integration for a dressed up Yahtzee. I found it entertaining, but not something that I'd wish to play often: for me, it's an occasional amusement at best.
  • If you enjoy the Lovecraftian theme, you'll find this one fun - but I'm not sure about balance. One time we won and it was a little close (5-player). The second play we easily won - without even breaking a sweat (4-player). The folks I played with really enjoyed it - and I think it fits well as a game for late at night with several moments of shouting at the outcome of a close roll. That's all great. But for a co-op - if it's too easy to beat, that could be a problem for long term play.

1. #Wingspan

2. #Elder Sign

3. #Spirit Island

All of these have been recommended to me over the past few months. I want to try Wingspan because of the great components and to get more non-gamers to try it, Elder Sign because I like the theme and it seems like it lines up with a lot of my tastes, and Spirit Island because I want a game that's a great solo AND co-op experience.

>"Right now I'm really enjoying games with RPG elements, co-op, and dice"

Haha, I can tell you are a #Too Many Bones fan! Those are my three favourite things as well actually. If you love it as much as me I'd say keep going with the expansions if you haven't already. There's a lot of great stuff to keep the TMB going.

It's not perfect, but I absolutely love #Elder Sign which is a co-op w/ custom dice. If you can get your hands on a decently priced copy then you could do much worse, and it's great solo.
