What's your favorite game you've received as a gift?
With the Christmas season upcoming, what's been your favorite game you've ever received as a gift?
Mine is #Tiny Towns. I received it as a gift from a friend last Christmas as a complete surprise. I hadn't discussed it with anyone, and it wasn't even on my list, but he picked it out and gave it to me in our Secret Santa.
I did technically receive #Viticulture: Essential Edition as part of a gift, but I picked it out as a replacement for something else that needed to be returned, so I don't know if that should count. If that counts, then it would take the top spot over Tiny Towns.

That's so sweet! I heard about that on the Board Game Barrage podcast. How did you like it?

Hmm, sometimes I wonder if the shelf space taken up by this beast of a game is worth it, but ultimately it's pretty fun. The rulebook is a crime against humanity and the tactical elements are very fiddly (handling enemy movement, working out line of sight etc.). You have to be really into heavy rulesets and skirmish games to bother with it. If you already have a god-tier dexterity game which I do with #Carrom, it won't get played much. That's the case for me anyway.
That said, the character upgrades are really cool - upgrading from tiny discs that represent 9mm bullets up to the huge stonking discs that represent firing a barrett 50 cal is so satisfying. It's great when you or your buddy have to make that one tricky shot to survive and you hit a perfect flick that nails an enemy bot.
I'd probably give it a 6/10 or something.

I'm going to have to say #Dominion: Second Edition.
My wife gave it to me for a birthday present right when I got into the hobby. We played the snot out of that game, we still play it, and I still love it.

I think the only game I wasn't expecting (aka didn't ask for it) that I received as a gift was #7 Wonders Duel. Wasn't on my radar at all and it quickly became a favorite of ours.

I tend to buy the games I want (most people would get me a gift card instead of guessing what game I'd like), but once I got #Imperial Settlers and #Five Tribes in the same year.

I'm in this same boat. My mom wants to know what to get me for Christmas and I kind of want to be like just give me money and I'll figure it out later lol

I let my friend's sister stay in my flat for a couple of days when I was on holiday, and when I got home #Seal Team Flix was sat on my coffee table with a thank you note. I was blown away. I've only played it a handful of times but it was a very thoughtful gift.
