Dune in about 3 minutes - YouTube

Our latest review covers the most sought after out of print game for 30 odd years, Dune.

I played this back in the 80's and 90s and yep, its the same game. I like it, but I feel it clashes with a lot of modern board game sensibilities. It's unforgiving and I enjoy it for that, but its a game that needs resilience and maturity from its players.

If anyone's interested, I played this game on Friday night and wrote up how the game played out here: https://www.boardgameatlas.com/forum/h1yCy9mTws/dune--postgame-report

Nice! Very well done!

I’m currently playing through a six player game myself to learn the game. It’s really fascinating; looking forward to getting a group together to play it!

Looks like so much fun.  Wish it was shorter.  I did add A War of Whispers to m"look into" list.  How did you like that game?  We might need a 3M review of that one?

Unlikely in the near future. I don't personally have a copy and the person i played it with wasnt a fan so onsold it pretty quickly.

I thought it was good, but I immediately felt there were some issues. Namely the median values of starting alliances determine the overall shape of the game a lot, and that means starting with unpopular choices makes your game much harder. If 3 players all share the same 3 allies, and the 4th player does not. The 4th player is going to have to reveal quickly or come last.  Scores in our games ended up staggeringly homogeneous.

Also, very little reason for table talk, banter and deals.

I still want to try it.

"Unforgiving" is a great word to describe this game. This is definitely the kind of game I would shy away from were it not for my love for the book series.

I loved how you were able to show the faction special abilities in the video without going through each one individually - very creative!

Necessity is the mother of invention. There was no way i was gonna get those exceptions in, and i was stuck for a bit. The icons seemed the best way to convey it in the time code.
