Targi: Solo Play

Like my last post about my official-ish solo play of #Cry Havoc, I got to play the solo variant of #Targi that is also official-ish. The variant was designed by the original designer of Targi so you can probably say it’s more official than a publisher-accepted, fan-made variant like that of Cry Havoc.

Needless to say, it was good! It adds and takes away a few things from the game as expected, but still play very similarly. The AI functions as a “player”, yet receives no score. Your win conditions are based on points acquired and objectives completed.

Overall, it was difficult and I lost...but I had fun doing so! Another incentive to buy Targi!

I really like this solo variant as well, but it's worth mentioning that it requires 2 x d12 dice. or, a digital replacement. otherwise, a great variant that plays very close to the 2player version and has a bunch of variable challenges built in to it.

Totally true. I was bummed when I heard that because I still don’t have one, but I downloaded an app so that helped

I didn't realize this was solo-able

Sliddell11 5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Yeah! Technically the game is only 2 player but the designer came out with a solo mode and a 3-4 player mode as well. The base game does not include what is needed for the 3-4 player

Good to know! It’s on my list to find one of these days.

Yeah it’s great! I would pull the trigger on it. It’s a great filler game that doesn’t feel like a filler, if that makes sense.

Definitely makes sense!

I've watched reviews on this and its twist on the worker placement mechanic seems so brilliant. Around how much time does it usually take to finish a game?

Sliddell11 5 months ago | 1 point[-]

It really is! It’s no longer place and take but, planning how you are going to take what you want to based off of multiple placements by you and the opponent.

it usually takes about 30-40 min I believe... however, solo can take waaayyy longer because you don’t have anyone pressuring you to go.

I’m interested in this game and didn’t know that it had a solo mode. I thought it was 2-player only.

Sliddell11 5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Technically it is only a 2 player game, however the designer (due to mass request) developed a solo mode! It functions very much like the normal game but add a few things. I liked it!

That’s cool! Raises my interest in acquiring it by a lot.

GET IT!!!

Marshwiggle92 Supporter5 months ago | 1 point[-]

So, I assume it blocks spaces for you?

Sliddell11 5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Right. It acts as another player taking up space, but it doesn’t reap the benefits. Basically just a blocker

Marshwiggle92 Supporter5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Gotcha

Sliddell11 5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Do you think you might end up getting it?

Marshwiggle92 Supporter5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Sure. I'll probably get it sometime. I have had it in my wish list for two or three years.

I try to combat the cult of the new in my personal, quite small, collection, but, something seems to always crowd #targi out of my cart.

Sliddell11 5 months ago | 1 point[-]

Yeah I totally get that. I feel like the reason why I got it was because it’s a great combination of a lot of things I like in a game (plus it was free haha).

I really like that with the giveaways, it gives a chance for someone to try out a game they otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Like the ones that always stay as #2 on your wishlist because of newer games that keep coming up.

I liked that a lot! You can get a larger game you really want, along with a smaller game that you wouldn’t normally buy, but now you can! Haha
