FFG's In Flight Report - Will it happen?

Each year FFG (Fantasy Flight Games) has their In Flight Report or press conference showing off what's upcoming from them and sometimes making big announcements. This is usually done during GenCon. Well, in the nightmare hellscape of 2020, GenCon is cancelled and everything is in flux. My question to you is:

  1. Do you think they'll have one this year?
  2. What do you think it will have in it?
  3. What would you LOVE for it to have in it?
  4. Any fond memories of announcements of the past?

For me, I think they'll have one. If the Nintendo Direct has taught me anything it's that a tightly produced video is far better than "people on a stage talking about stuff". I think they'll go this route. Hopefully with a follow-up with the studio head and maybe a Q&A on Twitch. Then some gameplay demos like they did last year.

I think it will have more Legion and Armada. Both of which are not for me. After that? Who knows.

I'd love for there to be an expansion from Outer Rim. A "more stuff" expansion if you will. With all the love that #Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion is getting, I've love for them to have their own knockoff in the Star Wars universe. Using the card based mechanics of GH and Journey's in Middle Earth or some union of the two. Lastly I'd love for them to make some new games in the Android universe. Cyberpunk is my favorite genre and especially when it dips into Sci-Fantasy. With Cyberpunk 2077 coming out in the fall this is the perfect time to cash in.

Yes, I think they’ll have something this year.

Almost certainly:

More content for #Marvel Champions: The Card Game

More content for #Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Likely: A new stand alone IP game

Wishlist:

#Star Wars: Outer Rim expansion

#Star Wars Imperial Assault Heart of the Empire app campaign

How could I forget Marvel Champions!? For a certainty it will be there.

As much as I hate their money hungry expansion farms...they certainly know how to coax me into putting that hatred away long enough to charge my credit card haha

I'm getting the point where I want more expansions and less new games, so this way of doing things works out pretty well for me. For the most part at least.

Lol. At least all of their products are so well produced that you don’t feel quite as bad paying for them.

Forgive my ignorance, having played neither of them, but is #Star Wars Imperial Assault not similar to Gloomhaven already?

Oh, I missed that somehow. I'll check it out!

Being dungeon crawlers, they've both got that. IA is a one vs. many game at it's heart with one player playing the Empire and the many playing Rebels. GH is against a rules AI which Imperial Assault added with an app.

The major difference is that one (Gloomhaven) uses cards and decisions for combat and Imperial Assault uses dice. This is the biggest thing that sets them apart.

Ah okay. I do tend to prefer cards to dice, so that would be cool. I just wonder if there's enough of a difference between them to warrant creating an entirely new (and presumably large and expensive) game with the same theme.

Well Descent was out from FFG with loads of content before Gloomhaven hit the scene. The mechanics are the really big differentiator. Imperial Assault was essentially Descent 2nd Edition 2.0 therefore being a licenced retheme of thier own game. I could see FFG doing an Imperial Assault 2.0 and take the card based action of #The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth or something similar to it and bringing it into Star Wars. I saw a lot of talk when JIME came out that the cards reminded people of GloomHaven but at it's core the cards still behave as dice in some ways. Adding more deterministic gameplay could be a place of growth for the Imperial Assault formula.

Who am I kidding though. Maybe instead of a new Imperial Assult that mimics GloomHaven I just want an Android universe dungeon crawler with deterministic gameplay. Yeah, that's what I really want. :-)
