WIshlist? What is that?

Premium User

Yeah, it is tongue in cheek, but I tend to buy the games I really want. My list of games I need to get rid of is way longer than those I am looking to buy. I understand that isn't a bad problem to have.

There are some games I am flirting with. #Yokohama and #PARKS are a couple I have been thinking about for a while. I am looking at the Feld signature series on Kickstarter.

What I'd really like to do is have members provide suggestions about what should be on my wishlist. I figured that if I ever won a contest, I'd ask the community what to get, so now I can just ask what I should be wishing for.

Any suggestions?

Parks is a fun, if a bit light, game with beautiful artwork and great wooden animal meeples.  We enjoyed playing it and it certainly is worth having in your collection.  There is also a solo mode if that interests you.

With the amount of games you own it would be pretty had to make a suggestion that you don't already have.  I will say that we just got a Crokinole baord and it is a blast to play.  Maybe something outside of what you already own...

I have two Crokinole boards. :) It is a great game!

lol...like i said earlier...not easy.

Out of the two you mentioned I've only played Yokohama.  Parks reminds me of #Tokaido based on the write up.  Out of the two Yokohama would be my pick by far.

I took a look at your games list to get some hints but at 500+ games it's sort of hard to narrow it down!

What games are you finding you really enjoy right now?  Are you looking for more of the same or something different?

I put some of my favorites in a post above. I think you and I have spoken about Yokohama before. I just haven't pulled the trigger on it. I have the deluxe Tokaido, so that may replace Parks for me. I suppose I would love something different that pulls me out of my go to zone (which is typically mid-weight euro).

I can throw out some lesser known games (Or maybe games that didn't stay popular) that I quite enjoy:

It's pretty hard to tell if any of those would suit your needs.  They aren't all 5 star games but they all have little tweaks or interesting play that I enjoy.

I tried Big trouble. Not my thing, but I haven't even heard of the rest of those. Thank for giving me something to research!

Premium User3 months ago

No problem.  I kind of went to games I like that are not highly rated in case you find something different for you.  If you aren't in to Big Trouble you might not be in to Zona but the others all have their interesting takes on things.

I, too, am flirting with #PARKS, so I support you getting that, and if you don't like it, sending it to me.

See, I'm helping you twice.

So, I can buy and get rid of a game at the same time. That is brilliant!

Has it always been this way for you? Or did you have a wishlist earlier on in your "career?"

Premium User3 months ago

It hasn't always been that way. I have been building my collection for 20 years though, so the list of wishlist games has gotten smaller and smaller. I've also learned what I like and what I don't, so that narrowed what I look to buy.

That makes sense.

I just looked at your Owned list to see if I could make any suggestions and WOW

His previously owned is a mere 290... my previously owned is 960 (not counting my husband's RPG stuff).

That's what living in an area with good thrift stores can do.

Where is that, if you don't mind my asking?

Partner3 months ago

We used to live in Ithaca, NY, which had a good thrift store (Cornell brought people who would have games in different languages, for example). We would also go to Auburn, Liverpool, Seneca Falls, other places. But the best thrift stores were perhaps in Rochester (home of Millennium Games).

The Ithaca Friends of the Library Book Sale was also an amazing place to find games. In 2011 I got Tumblin Dice for $3.50

and a vintage Rail Baron, also for $3.50

and several other things.

Nice!

It's rare to find anything of value in our local stores. I can't think of a single good purchase I've made.

Premium User3 months ago

Yeah. That is what makes finding a wishlist game hard. Again, not a bad problem to have. I think I have another 50 games to add to my list as well that I haven't updated yet.

Holy crap lol. What are a few of your favorites?

Premium User3 months ago

7 Wonders continues to be my favorite game, along with Leaders. Trajan and Tzolkin are my two favorite euros. Too many bones is still eeking out Gloomhaven as my favorite dungeon crawl. Hamsterolle is probably my favorite dexterity game, though I have a custom boardgame called Warlords that is right up there. Mall of Horror is my favorite zombie and negotiation game. Ra my favorite bidding game. Monster City Planners is my favorite unknown game. Star Wars Queen's gambit is my favorite that I've painted. Scythe for overall upgrades. D&D is still probably my favorite game of all time.

NIce! I've only played one of those, and it's #7 Wonders, of which I am a big fan as well. I haven't used Leaders. I have Cities, and that's good, though it doesn't feel like a "must have" expansion.

Premium User3 months ago

I have Cities and never really use it. Leaders is awesome. It provides a lot more strategic depth with a very low (5 minutes maybe) time increase in the game.

Cool, I'll have to pick it up. Are you planning to get the new edition with the updated art and components?

Premium User3 months ago

I'm not. I have a playmat and coins I use for the old version. Plus I had Antoine sign several components of my copy. I'm happy with what I have.

Wow that is really cool! Was that at a convention?

I do like the look of the new edition, but at the price they're asking I don't think it's worth it since I already have the game. If I was just looking to jump into the game I'd definitely get this new edition.

Premium User3 months ago

Yes. It was at Strategicon in LA. I have a bunch of signed games from conventions down there including Race for the galaxy, Memoir 44, Start Player, Roll through the ages and others.
