I don't know if this is in the spirit of these thread, but what are people's thoughts on Everdell. Their new kickstarter is out and it looks right up my alley. Does anyone have any thoughts on this game?

Ughh if only it wasn’t on Kickstarter. Looks great though!

I'd get the whole package, if I were a richer man.
I'm going to try to recommend one that I don't usually gush over *cough* Raiders of the North Sea, Architects of the West Kingdom *cough* and instead do one that could be dismissed due to its theme. That game is Villainous and its two expansions.
My group likes to call this game Root lite. Each villain plays differently, each villains deck is very thematic to their movie and that helps pull this whole thing together. The production is very nice except for the cauldron to whole the tokens but I can let that slide. It's a thinky game that you'll be going back and fourth with your competators the whole way. There's a fair amount of "take that" in the game, but they're villains, what do you expect?
Optimal player size is 3-4. Five players is really pushing it and 6 is right out. I'd almost say the game breaksdown at 5 and only gets worse beyond that. Turns take too long and the game stretches out to TI4 levels without the engagement. It's a little big of multiplayer solitaire, but it's a good time and good with older kids. Give it a look.

Thanks for the recommendation. My wife and I were just looking at this at Barnes & Noble the other day, but I couldn't give here much information on it, other than "People seem to really like it" haha It's one that has interested me a lot since it released. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play it one day :) I like that all villains play differently. That's always great in a game.

Ha! Well it's not too spendy of a game at this point, plus it comes with metal coins out of the box. It's a value when you think about it. :)
The nice thing too is that if you feel that it can turn into a bit too much of a race then you can add Hall of Heroes and it slows things down. Want some more variety? Add Fields of Glory. It's really my favorite game.
True, I did like seeing the price point :D
I'm sure I'll like it, I'm very easy to please for now haha. I like worker placements and love Mihajlo's art style on it so it's pretty much a guarantee. I'm just waiting to get some plays in for Viticulture EE with my wife and then get Raiders in the future!
I will also eventually pick up this one, also because you have hyped it so much. I think it looks really fun and you are right, the price point is quite reasonable!
Just played a first time through (didn't have time to finish) of Clans of Caledonia and I loved it. There is a lot to think about, but I think the rules are pretty straight forward. We did play with the recommended first game rules, taking out some of the asymmetry and some extra possible actions, but it was a great way to introduce the game and I'll be happy to play it full on next time. I can't wait to get it back to the table.
Also started playing Bargain Quest with my almost 7 year old and that has been a lot of fun. Light and easy, but still engaging.
Bargain Quest is a fun one. I like adding The Blackmarket expansion. It doesn't add a lot, but spices things up in a good way. New heroes and items and whatnot, but it's the blackmarket deck and upgrade that helps the game out.
I have Bargain Quest in the list to eventually pickup with my kids too! Glad to know I wasn’t off base with this one. There are so many games out there! Not enough time!
I haven't played Bargain Quest yet but I've been interested ever since interviewing the artist (Victoria Ying). I like the idea of the game, the art, and the story (designer and artist siblings). Was it pretty easy for your 7 year old to pick up too?
We played the first game open hand and she was confident enough to play closed hand in our second game. We will introduce drafting next time. I've found it good to lighten up the rules and add them as we play more games.
We talk about board games here. Games like Codenames, Catan, Root, and all your favorites. Posts can link directly to games and everyone is welcome to join the discussion.
