What's the most dangerous word or phrase that "forces" you to buy a game or do a deep research on it?

Multi-use cards

Engine builder

Hmmm these are all great words too.

ooo yeah asymmetry will get me to at least look at a game I might not otherwise have considered.

the day they announce an asymmetrical cyberpunk tactical combat board game with spaceships i'm just going to mail the publisher my bank account details

That sounds awesome, haha. The first half sounds like #Android: Netrunner, but of course that's a card game, and I don't think there are spaceships.

they travel to mars so yes they have like space travel but there's no spaceship cards ifyou know what I mean

Lol. This would be great.

Haha, this answer is awesome.  And I agree.

Star Wars :)

I was wondering how long it would take this post to get here.  Haha.

I hope you didn't have to wait too long haha

I just realized that GIF serves two purposes.  Hope and your name is Ben.  Haha.

hahaha Our improv troupe's shirts in college had some sort of nickname on the back (like a sports name on a jersey). Mine was Obi-Wan, so this checks out.

Supporter9 months ago

Of course it would’ve been Obi-Wan

I wonder if he means Old Ben Kenobi...

That wizard's just a crazy old man.

I told you to forget it.

My answer as well. But I've yet to actually buy one, haha.

Along this line, Gale Force Nine manages the license for Dune and have said that several other publishers are working on games with the Dune license. So that.

I liked Dune. Read the first two books and enjoyed them. I'd be very interested in playing Dune games.

I'm hoping at least one more comes out this year, before the movie. #Dune is great but not the easiest to get to the table, haha.

I can imagine. I saw Dune being played at Origins and it looked...detailed haha I feel like there has to be at least one game coming out soon to piggy back off the movie.

Hope so! There was a trading card game in the 90s or something, and I'd be interested to see a card game come back, though I'd rather it wasn't a trading card game. I'd prefer a self-contained and complete game, haha.

Yeah, self contained would be great. I much prefer games like that, where I know how much I'll be spending when I actually buy it, rather than boosters and stuff. And if Fantasy Flight gets a hold of it, you can expect it to die off within 5 years or so. Or maybe I'm just bitter over Star Wars Destiny haha

Yes, I'm not really interested in a game I have to keep buying.

Was Destiny that good?

I really liked it as a game. The boosters made it a rich man’s game because you’d have to spend a lot to get the good meta cards. But I just played casually and loved each and every game.

If "Tactics" is in the title, I'm at least going to look at it. The blessing and curse is that I don't have any game partners interested in those games, so they're getting easier to dismiss. A little bit, anyway. :)

Supporter9 months ago

So your prefer tactics to strategy?

In practice, no. But I am a sucker for anything at evokes the "tactical miniatures"/Final Fantasy Tactics feel. I enjoy both tactics and strategy quite a lot, and like when they are both in a game. I probably slightly favor tactics, but not a lot. I also like it in games that don't fit the above descriptions. For example, Nippon is a fantastically tactical game, despite its "dry Euro" appearance. :)
