Our family has been enjoying lots of board gaming throughout this week so we got ourselves Skull and Welcome to...!

That’s great!

I heard that “welcome to” is great, how do you like it so far?

Supporter10 months ago

I haven't gotten it out yet but I've had three or so plays on it with friends before. It's one that immediately made me regret getting Railroad Ink because my wife and I both enjoyed it a lot. I like Railroad Ink for its simplicity but if we wanted a short game around 30 min or less, I think we'd always prefer playing Welcome To. The theme is more relatable and it's great to have some level of variation in strategy.

That makes sense. It’s always nice to have a couple of those games on hand!

That's great!  Crossing my fingers to play a few games this week.

Both great games Phil!

My wife got me a few games for Christmas

  1. Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear - Operation Barbossa 1941 (Third Edition)
  2. Wingspan: European Expansion
  3. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle

I have to say, CoH is my first foray into war games (outside of GMT's COIN series), and it's amazing. Seriously so good. I've played 4 solo games so far and loved every minute of it. This game very well may end up in my top 3 shortly.

That's awesome.  Good solo games always interest me.

That is a varied list of games.

Indeed! I enjoy a variety of games

Sweet!

I’m a WW2 buff so I’ll have to check that one out!

It's really great. Rules aren't terribly complex, play time is quick, and the narrative it develops is amazing. I highly recommend it.

Paladins of the West Kingdom, Taverns of Tiefenthal, and Forgotten Circles :)  And my wife bought me 4 months of beer from the Rare Beer of the Month Club

Beer to drink with Taverns?  Perfect!  I would also like to see what you think if Paladins.  The only thing that has steered me clear of the Western Kingdom is the fact that I have a decent amount of Worker Placement games already.

Amazing haul!

I'm eating for someone here to review paladins.

Supporter11 months ago

Well if you are going to eat me then I don’t really want to review it...

Supporter11 months ago

Oops. I meant to write waiting.

haha!, Well, I have a 12 hour workday today but hopefully I'll get a chance to play tomorrow and right something up about it afterwards. :)

Good luck!

Have fun with that

Board games and beer... an amazing combination!

Supporter11 months ago

Nothing better.  But it does take a lot of trust in who you have over for game night to have beer near your games.  No mishaps here yet.

Haha definitely. I haven’t had one yet either!

Got spoiled as always. Board game wise I got:

Ecos: First Continent: Saw it at SHUX and it looked amazing. Ran through a quick game on my own and I think it is going to be a blast!

Lorenzo il Magnifico: Been on my radar since I got in to the hobby. I just like the look and the concept. Haven’t opened it yet but looking forward to that tomorrow!

The components for ecos look great. Does it play well?

Supporter11 months ago

I’ve just done a dry run on my own playing a couple of players through maybe 1/2 a game.

My early take is that there aren’t a ton of little things to remember.  I think the simultaneous play will work well.  There is likely going to be a lot of player interaction as there are some big point gains that can be setup but definitely can be messed with as well.

I love the idea of building an engine where parts expire after a while  (Paper Tales was interesting to me for that too.) so I’m excited to get this one to the table!

I like the idea of parts of your engine expiring.
