Art in Board Games Re-imagined

Owner

Hmmm just for fun, I'm thinking of taking a stab at re-imagining characters from a board game and illustrating it in my own way. Which board game should I go for and why? What sort of twist or my own take should I put on it? No promises on quality but I'll do it for fun and share when I get to it :)

Edit: I should provide some context. Drawing has been my hobby ever since I was little. I thought it'd be fun to try drawing characters from board games!

Oh #The Expanse just needs art.  The still from the TV show are the worst.

I'm liking all of the suggestions, and this one would be interesting because I've never even watched/read it :D

Well I highly recommend the books (I'm planning on watching the show after the final book is released and I read it.). But start with books 1 & 2 and then make the art work.

Also, I don't know how you feel about language but there is definitely a decent amount of cussing in the series.

This is such a phenomenal book series.

Oh man, I've loved it.  I am excited to check the show out too once they release and I read (listen to) book #9.

Would enjoy a reimagined set of characters from #Dune, it might be fun rather than just portraits to put the characters more into the world: have them in the middle of a negotiation or a battle or with a big old worm!

This would be cool! I wonder what sort of style I should try to go with. Would have to read up on the characters too :D

You should just read the book :)

Do you tend to prefer more realistic or cartoony style of art?

Oh man this would be dope! Gotta make it a little more racially diverse than the new art lol

Agreed, that would be a bonus!

Oh yes please! I love the game but the art for the leaders is uninspired. Not to mention that having the Fremen all be pasty white is an odd choice.

Of course that would pretty much require him to have read Dune. Which everyone should do!

Two birds, one stone. We get cool art, he gets a good read :)

Take a board game you like, and draw it as if it was set hundred(s) of years earlier, or later.

Santorini set in the future? Welcome To set in the past?

I like that idea! Post apocalyptic Root? haha

Alternatively, you can give a game you like a what if?/elseworlds spin, and redraw the game set in a different country.

Tokaido set in Brazil? Parks in France? Skulk Hollow with animal & gods from Egyptian Mythology?

I wouldn't mind new art for Argent :P

Just checked out the game! Level 99 Games (the publisher) sure seems to favor anime style in their direction for most games

I think it would interesting to take games like #Everdell or #Root and turn them in to a sci-fi/space theme...How cool would it be seeing the factions fighting each other across space...

Owner6 months ago

Ohhh a complete re-theme would be a fun one too! :D

Supporter5 months ago

Wow, yes! This would be amazing!

I would love to see your take on a game like #Agricola (Revised Edition) or anything from Klemens Franz! Maybe even #Le Havre? I love nautical themes :)

After all those times I picked on his art, it'll bite me back xD

I was thinking the same though, that I should try my own take on it just for fun (or maybe even to re-theme it some day (some day far far away)

Haha that was the first thing I thought of! You have voiced your displeasure with his style so I would love to see your take on what you would like his games to look like!

I second Viticulture and will also add Clans of Caledonia.

Owner6 months ago

Clans was definitely on my list when I first thought of the idea. For Viticulture, it would be fun to work on the mama and papa cards!

Supporter6 months ago

#Viticulture: Essential Edition? Make it in your sketch style?

#Root? Would like to see your take on the cute animals.

Owner6 months ago

Viticulture would be fun and I could potentially use it in the way future to redo the cards (probably not--too much work and the cards go well with the theme already haha)

I'd have a lot of fun with Root. It'd be interesting to decide which direction I should go with it. Keep it cute but change the style from the chibi (mini) animals to something more proportional to real life? Or just make it more realistic? Either way, whenever I tackle one of these, I'll probably first look up a style by an artist I like that will go well for the re-theme and then apply it in my take.

I'd love to see Root in the style of classic Disney cartoons, like Robin Hood. It's such a charming art style.
