My Top 5 Table Presence Games

Supporter

For me Aesthetics is a huge part of gaming, and there is something that is so satifying when a game gets it just right.  For me the following are my top games that really bring everything together.

5. #Star Wars Imperial Assault - One of the few games that I actually prefer minis for, the changing landscape and the character cards add a lot of Star Wars theme to the table.  I love the ability and weapons cards as well.  We also usually have a lot of fun playing Star Wars soundtracks while we play.

4. #Western Legends - I love the Wild West as a theme and on the table this game doesn't dissapoint.  The board it great and the poker cards (which drive most of the game), are top notch qaulity.  While the General Story is a bit flimsy you don't touch it too much so it does still look really cool with the theme.  I also love seeing a lot of players and NPC's on the board.

3. #Viticulture: Essential Edition - I love the art and meeples (especially the rooster) in this game.  It looks so great on the table and makes me feel like I've escaped to Italy for a couple of hours.  It also caused my gaming group to have a wine night when playing (and I never drink wine.).

2. #Clans of Caledonia - Such a solid game on the table.  The components feel and look so nice, and the simplistic map looks great (esepecially when it starts filling up with pieces).  The market board with the glass tokens looks so nice, the export board looks so nice, the player board are awesome, the clan pieces are perfect, and the player aids are small, simple, and high quality.  Really everything is the game is great.

1. #Root - Duh!  I'm sure anyone here who has seen me post is not surprised to see this at 1.  The art fits the theme so well.  The cards feel so nice to hold and play with.  The boards are awesome, especially when the fill up with those awesome screen printed minis.  The player boards are top quality.  I really feel like I'm diving into the Root Woodland when I play this game.

What about you?

When I think of table presence, I think of quality components and board, board state that can tell a story (this goes with each component on the board having a significant purpose), and an overall joy to look at. Hmmm this is reallllly tough.... but I think this would be my current list:

5. #Camel Up (second edition) - This is a really strange pick, but I love seeing the stacked camels, the camels that are behind, the camels on the crazy camel's back, all of the tokens trying to derails the camels, the stacks of betting tickets or predictions of winners/losers, etc

4. #Root - This would be #1 if I actually got in plays with more than 2p this year haha

3. #Clans of Caledonia - My wife and I still really really like this game. It just has the perfect vibe and gameplay that blends so well together. The map and the components are wonderful to play with

2. #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) - Recent addition that I'm liking a lot. The selection of components on this game are brilliant. The kind of story it tells resembles Root a bit

1. #Clank! Legacy: Acquisitions Incorporated - It's so fun to see the map on this one. It's a vertical rectangular map and it's an adventure down into the dungeon. I love that the board alone gives you a sense of exploration.

I love your description of table prescense, especially the tell a story part.  That's how I feel too!

For me, #Everdell takes it easily. The art is great, and the beautiful board combined with the giant tree, not to mention the eye-catching resources, make this game really pop.

It is gorgeous and certainly makes a splash on a table

I've not played it, but is there a pun in there somewhere?

Nope, just genuinely think it looks awesome from photos I have seen

Though there could be a splash if using the #Everdell: Pearlbrook expansion

Nice, yeah that looks like a very pretty game.

I haven't played it yet, but I expect that Pax Pamir 2E would fit in this list.

I would agree with that.  I'm sure it'd crack the top 5 if I played it.

I'm super excited to try it.

Did you back it or preorder it or win it?

Supporter4 months ago

Backed it and the coins.

Nice. This is really the only kickstarter I regret not being able to afford to back.  Maybe there will be enough copies to have it actually hit retail someday.

Supporter4 months ago

It might, but I don't know that Cole has that goal.

They are still available for pre-order on the werhligig website. I guess if you haven't gotten your gift certificate yet you could see if you could get a gift certificate for there. But, you would have to chip in $25 of your own money.

Also, I think BGA will be giving a copy away sometime. You might be able to win it.

I already picked up my Gift Card, but that's okay.  I don't want to go above the $60 I have.

I figured you wouldn't want to, but I wanted to tell you in case you were interested.
