Played Spirit Island last night

I had heard a lot of really great things about this game, and I have a friend who has it, so I thought what the heck, let's give it a shot. I was not very interested in it initially though, Coop games are not always my cup of tea, and I heard there is a lot of upkeep in the game as well.

I think after playing it, even as a beginning spirit, these concerns were confirmed in a way. There is a lot of upkeep, and coops are not always my favorite because everyone just kinda says what they can do without it sticking because everyone else is thinking about what THEY are going to do. BUT I do like a lot about the game. The fast and slow actions are really clever, and I do really like the Explore, Build and Ravage progression of the invaders. It allows you to plan ahead rather than having random things build up (I am looking at you Pandemic...making people lose before they can even take a turn...)

There is a lot going on here, I can say I will never purchase the game myself, but I would be willing to give it another go after taking off my training wheels!

I’ve been considering this game also. 3 minute board games really likes this game and my tastes align fairly well with his. Which makes me think I’d like to too.

I've been pretty interested in this so it's interesting to hear your thoughts, especially as someone who's not big into cooperative games. If you do play it again, definitely let us know how your thoughts have evolved (or remained the same).

It sounds like it could be great solo.

I would almost guarantee another play coming here soon. My friend really likes this game so we typically are open to what the other person is feeling.

I have heard it will melt your face thinking of everything you need to do lol.

Have you managed to get another play in?

Not yet, it’s my friends game and he just moved so it’s been lower on the priorities for him.

Makes perfect sense

I could use a good face melting haha

Face melting. That does sound fun, sometimes.

By all means let us know how the next play goes. I am super interested in what your next impressions are.

Since we are taking about Scythe on another thread... How do you feel the complexity compares to Scythe? Is it a decent chunk more complex? Or is it sameish? Simpler?

Also, curious how you feel about the components?

Component wise, they were good. The explorers look pretty rigid and clearly 3D printed, the Dahan wooden huts are neat and the disks are pretty standard fair. Overall a pretty high level of production. Thick cardboard on everything else too which is a plus.

Sounds decent.

Also, I am trying out the new subscribe feature on this post. I am anxious to hear what everyone says about it.

Man, this is one of those games that I really want to play. I am officially jealous of you.

How do you think it would play solo?

Was quarterbacking a problem?

Could quarterbacking be a problem.

Ha! It is definitely worth a look for sure.

My friend who owns it said it plays really well Solo. I have heard you basically play two Spirits and it can really turn into a brain burner if you are looking for that!

Quarterbacking was not a problem, I can see honestly how this game can avoid that too. Everyone has their own cards that they are worrying about and you often WANT other peoples opinions on the direction you should go.

I wonder how long a solo game would generally take?

How long es your multiplayer experience?

Supporter12 months ago

Well. Maybe I just need to win again this month. Then I can choose it as a prize. LOL.

It is right in the $60 sweet spot! The production is pretty nice too. All the bits feel nice! AND there is a lot replayability with all of the different spirits and variables you can adjust!
