Agree with Phil. We played #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar at game night last week (first time playing it for me) and Pendulum was certainly reminiscent of that, which we talked about a bit.
While I've only played Pendulum the one time, the longer I go without playing it again, the less of a desire I have to do so. #Fuse is one of my favorite real-time games. Pendulum is...lighter fare. Which isn't always bad, but I think the timers are more of a gimmick than anything.
It is a fine game, and I do want to play it again. But, there are plenty of better games out there I would rather play. Such a conundrum haha
Also, I think 10 Things I Hate About You is a fantastic movie, thank you very much! 😁

This was the first Stonemaier game in a good bit that I didn't pre-purchase out of the gate. I like the idea and the real-time concept seemed pretty good but I wasn't as into the game theme and it seemed somewhat pasted on (imo). I would like to play someday but just wasn't sure about the mechanics. I can see this idea being used in another game with a more streamlined theme down the road perhaps. Thanks for the video! Excellent as usual :)

Interesting video. I do like the idea of the "rom com game."
I do think that the more specific your tastes are, the greater the need for some "rom com" board games in your collection. I like heavy games. I like combative games. I love historical themes. I love crazy almost broken games. That puts me in an area where a lot of people are uncomfortable. So I need good rom com to play with people like that. I do have some. But maybe I should get this as another one.

I think Trent's idea of a good "rom com" is different from mine though xD

Thanks for the video! I appreciated getting your thoughts as well as Phil's. Do you guys think that if the real-time bit was implemented in a different game that you would enjoy it more? I do think that the real time worker placement is an cool concept, but the game outside of that doesn't seem too interesting to me, which it sounds like is how you guys feel about it.

I felt like it was a great implementation of combining timers and worker placement. I bet with a couple changes the game could move up in my desire to play. Although, I'd normally think Stonemaier would be the publisher to do it. The sandpaper player mats felt strange. I'd rather have the fort style thick player mats, wooden components instead of plastic and the theme would need to change to somewhere where I feel like the actions I'm taking are part of the theme (not sure what that would be though). It's probably needs to be something that shouldn't be explained like a fantasy world. OH! I bet a theme around cooking in a restaurant would work really well actually. Lots of cooking dishes that take separate amounts of time...
Real-time restaurant themed game? There's already #Kitchen Rush that's received a lot of praise for it. It's co-op though, and probably quite similar in feel as playing Overcooked video game haha
@philryuh should I make a video called "how I to make Pendulum into a top 100 game" and explain my suggestions? Do you think people would watch?
If I can chime in, a video with that title would be hard-pressed to not come off as arrogant, in my opinion. You could make a video about your personal suggestions for the game but with a different title like "What Would Make Me Enjoy Pendulum More" (but something more interesting) and it would give it a more positive connotation in my eyes.
I do think Phil's suggestion for a video would be pretty interesting!
Ehhh... personally, I'd say no, especially the title. It's been released for barely 1-2 months and talking about why it's not Top 100 material wouldn't make sense to me. And besides, real-time games have a narrower audience in general and is why none of them are in the Top 100 currently (on BGG).
I think a video that I'd be more interested in is talking about a set of games that just seems ok but aren't your favorites and talk about (1) the reason why and (2) what sort of change you'd want to see and ask viewers to share theirs as well.

Do you think the games you like best have a 'hook'?
