I read the linked article from GameCows and thought it could make for a fun conversation topic!

For starters, we need an open-world Zelda game.
For not starters, I'm pretty sure #Adrenaline is every FPS. And it's sooooooo much fun!

Some directly inspired games I quite enjoy:

Pretty sure #Tiny Epic Tactics - Featuring a 3D Environment is inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics, which is my all time favorite game.

I would love to see something along the lines of Rainbow six siege made into a hyper tactical board game. Police vs hostage takers. Could be either 1 vs many or two teams. have a central map showing the layout (or It could start hidden) and then the hostage takers have a screen behind which they have a mini map and can place/control their people. Then once the police breach a room (or use a spy cam etc.) the hostage taker places all the things that are in that room.
Could have all kinds of fun equipment/traps for each side and make it highly asymmetric. I think it might work better as a 1vs many, a bunch of less effective hostage takers but they have the element of surprise and don't have to worry about civilians.
I have really enjoyed the XCOM board game, a really good use of an app to control the aliens and make things truly unpredictable with minimal admin. Also the time pressure prevents any quarterbacking.
Wow, that sounds really cool!

Rome: Total War would be an awesome board game.

Final Fantasy - This is more of a wish, but I'd love to have a board game that brings back all of the nostalgia I have for this game. Playing #Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion made me think that the game's mechanics are actually quite well suited for an FF reskin.
The only other one I can think of at the moment is Bioshock, and I think a core mechanic should be one that incorporates walking between the lines of morality. Probably would need to go quite dark in theme to get to achieve it though. Seems like there was a game made on this IP already, but probably not what I'd hope for.
As for favorite board game inspired by a video/PC game, I haven't played but I know #Starcraft is well regarded!
Oh wow, I didn't know there was a Starcraft board game!
I think a platformer like Super Mario or even something newer like Little Big Planet could would as a board game, and you could add a racing component to it to make it competitive. I'm not sure what exactly the mechanisms would need to be - maybe deck-building? Maybe legacy, so your character learns new abilities? Not sure, but I think someone smart could make it work.
I like the idea of a platformer, could steal the 3D terrain concept from #Tiny Epic Tactics - Featuring a 3D Environment. I like the idea of rather than a deck builder a deck destruction game for a race scenario. Maybe have a few reusable cards but any big jumps or sprints are discarded as you get more 'tired'. Possibly to keep it interesting, there are equipment cards you can collect as you go Mario cart style so you constantly have new options open to you. And of course plenty of options to interact with other players.
I think with that you have to either have very short races or make sure there are catch up mechanics to prevent a leader just getting clear of the pack and being untouchable (blue shells!). I like the idea of a legacy idea, or just that a game of it is multiple very short races with the option to upgrade/recover in between but never to full so you pick what you get back and if you blew all your great cards on race 1 you are in trouble for the next race.
Yeah that would be the tough part. Blue shells would work, lol

I think something like Fire Emblem would work well as a Board game, it could function similarly to Gloomhaven or Too Many Bones with different scenarios!
I also would love a game like Bioshock to be a board game.. The stories are always immersive, but I have no clue how it could work well.

#BioShock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia Board Game
I clearly did not look into this beforehand lol
Its for infinite, and infinite is the awkward bioshock for many reasons, so it didnt get much hype on release at all.
I really enjoyed infinite the game, but I did prefer the original to it!
That was one of those games that I watched playthroughs of on YouTube because I knew I'd never get to it and was fascinated by the storyline (Bioshock in general)
If you ever get to it...definitely play Bioshock 1 and 2 before Infinite. The atmosphere is super good and the story is wild!
That's probably true!
Yeah Bioshock could be a cool theme but I'm not sure what mechanisms you would pair it with.
It could be a deck builder in a way, like you have different plasmid cards you could buy and fight different enemies maybe? Maybe combine gloomhaven movement with Aeon's End combat?
Haha, I'm sold. Design it!
Lol, it is the slow season for work so it may be a day dream potential! I also had a Star Fox 64 idea at one point!
Oh Star Fox would be cool too!
I was thinking about it as a bag builder, but more similar to #Orléans where you can build up different things in your ship and become more efficient.
I don't think I've played any board games based on video games, but there are a few I've heard of:
