Oceans "Legends of the Deep" expansion announced
Announcing Legends of the Deep, an expansion to Oceans that will come to Kickstarter mid-2021.
Legends of the Deep will bring high fantasy into the Oceans ecosystem. Each player will have 4 over-sized Empire cards at the start of each game that can be played instead of a trait. Empire cards affect every one of your species. For instance, the Flying Whales empire might say "Each of your species gets "Forage 5. May store 5 extra population. Cannot be attacked by a species with a Deep trait."

I am! Honestly I think I'm more excited for the fact that they are continuing to support this game than I am for this specific expansion, at least until I learn more about this one.

For some reason I thought they already had an expansion for it...I guess I was wrong! That is cool that one of your favorite games is getting support!

Yeah! Dominic from North Star also said there are plans for more expansions after this one too, so that's fun!

I mean they can easily change things up even with a new deck or something! That is exciting. What would you want the expansions to entail?

Well this Legends of the Deep one embraces the fantastical/mythical stuff that's hinted at in the base game, which is fun, but I've already seen a lot of people complain that it doesn't go along with the theme of the game. Dominic said that future expansion(s) will be more science-based, so I like that they're kind of expanding the game in both directions.
I'd love to see a few more Surface traits added, which I'm guessing would come in a 2nd expansion, based on the description of this upcoming one. Beyond that, I'm not creative enough to come up with anything cool to add, really. It sounds like this Legends of the Deep one adds a sort of variable player power aspect, or at least enhances what's already present in the game, so I like that too.

Interesting, I had not really thought about how there would be purists out there wanting to keep it scientific only. Hopefully the variability makes it more desirable for people and they can get over it!

The thing is that it's already not purely scientific, so I don't know why people got their panties in a bunch, haha

Hahaha maybe it is their own expectations of what reality is...Even playing Evolution you can see there is some fantasy aspects incorporated!

Haha Evolution is much less fantastical, but yeah it's certainly not scrictly scientific.

Lolol yes it does! I am never opposed to multi game night but that would be a doozy!
