Eric Lang describes his experiences with the Minneapolis police

Owner

For those who aren't aware, Eric Lang is a highly successful game designer at CMON who has put out titles such as #Blood Rage and #Rising Sun. Perhaps we might have some differing viewpoints regarding the recent events, but I hope this gives you another insight on the sort of every day concerns that many of us never really have to think about.

@nealkfrank @Courageous Bob @theDL I'll be making a forum post next week but in light of everything that's been happening, we're thinking of choosing one day this month where we'll put 100% of the proceeds on BGA and BGP toward a donation. Hope everyone can help share about it when the time comes!

Really love the initiative and I'm glad the situation is being acknowledge here on BGA. Keep it up.

Thank you! I'm sure there are people out there who may disagree with what we are doing, but I'm glad we'll all be able to help in our own little way.

This is great Phil! I will for sure keep an eye out.

Thanks Neal! :D

To clarify, would this be a "buy a game and the money goes towards an organization" or similar to the fundraising campaign that was put on earlier this year?

Owner12 months ago

It would be "Buy a game and the money goes towards an organization"

Wow...that is pretty amazing.

Did you have thoughts on where you would like the donation to go to?

Owner12 months ago

We're not sure yet, but maybe we could narrow it down and present it to everyone here as a poll?

Sounds good, my partner and I made a donation to 'The Bail Project' which we thought might be a really practical way to be supportive from a distance.

I gave to NAACP recently and am doing that Facebook birthday donation thing for them too which is a cool thing they offer.

That would be lovely! Might have to move up some plans for buying games to contribute!

Owner12 months ago

Time for me to start promoting Lacerda games, Gloomhaven, and Too Many Bones to everyone I see like a madman :D

But seriously, help in any form would be greatly appreciated!

I don't really know how BGA makes money, what would be the most helpful ways to increase the proceeds on the chosen day?

Premium User12 months ago

They make money from people clicking on the price links and buying stuff (I believe that's called "affiliate linking"). So save up your game purchases for whenever they do this, then go to either BGA or BGP, find the games you want, and click through and order from whatever retailer.

Aha, gotcha, this may be difficult as I am UK based but will spread the word to anyone I know who is in the US. But we can just donate directly to a cause so that is good.

Premium User12 months ago

Ah yes, I know they are working on expanding their options for merchants worldwide, but I guess they're not quite there yet. I'd have thought they'd at least have Amazon UK as an option. But yes, of course we can donate directly!

Yes, Phil said it is one of their plans for the next year so looking forward to that :) I do wish I could buy games at US prices though, would make my bank account much happier (or my game shelf fuller more likely)

Premium User12 months ago

Haha! Similarly, sometimes I look at Canadian prices and just try to figure out a way to make the shipping costs work.

Premium User12 months ago

Haha! I mentioned to my wife that you guys are thinking about doing this and she said that we should get a few games that we had talked about getting to play with some friends! I also mentioned Concordia and she said to go for it! We'd love to contribute!

Owner12 months ago

Hahaha your wife is awesome! :D

Thanks for the support and I really hope Concordia goes well :p

What other games were you two thinking of? (Edit: Nevermind, I just saw your comment on the feed on a different thread!)

Premium User12 months ago

I showed her the SUSD video on Concordia and she said she'd be down to try, so I've got the green light! The other games right now are #Wavelength and #Point Salad. I typed a little more about why over here: https://www.boardgameatlas.com/forum/GWHOZFVXk6/what-games-or-mechanics-are-missing-from-your-collection#jMsOw2Djss

This is a good idea.

Good one. I donated 33% of our Patreon total to BLM yesterday.

Excellent!

It's a whole different world to the one I am privileged enough to live in, can't even begin to imagine how scary and exhausting it must be.

Wow those are some jarring experiences, I cannot imagine feeling hated just for the color of my skin. I see him and feel for him and I am doing all I can to educate myself during this time.

I've been taking this time to try and understand on a deeper level what it must be like. Obviously, I can't ever understand completely. But hearing all these stories--especially from people I "know" and respect, like Eric Lang--sheds an entirely new light on things. Glad to see you guys making moves with this as well.

Sad stuff. It's been a bit of a bumpy ride, but hopefully all of this unrest leads to some positive change.
