The game everybody likes but you.

It seems like for a lot of people there is one game that is very popular, but they just don't like it. For instance I really do not like Castles of Burgandy. I see that it is brilliant in many ways. But I've played it over 12 times and I still just don't enjoy it. I've taught it to people that love it, and I think it deserves its popularity but....

Do you have games that everyone likes but you? Why? Is it because it is "broken?" is it because you didn't do enough research before playing it?

So far it's been Scythe. I'm sure it's a good game, but I've played it twice and had zero fun.

I have played it a couple of times, think I am doing well with my upgrades, then someone finishes the game and I have barely moved or done anything other than upgrading. It is fine, I will not go out of my way to play, I would not say no though to a play.

Scythe is good. It’s not my favorite of all time but it’s a fun experience.

Ahh too bad.  It's one of my favorites.  I feel like it plays best at 4+ though.  And I also like the thought of using a Variant I found to increase tension and the possibility of combat.

Dead of Winter. I find it to lack any tension...

i also have little interest in Spirit Island, haven’t played it but have a friend who has it and loves it. I’ll give it a shot.

My group tends to like Dead of Winter but it always falls pretty flat for me.  We have a Halloween tradition to play it but I'm trying to shift things over to Mansions of Madness.

Yea, every time I have played it there has been no traitor, and honestly even if there was I would not be interested. It just feels very procedural.

Mansions Of Madness definitely seems like the superior game, much less structured with clear and obvious decisions.

The last game we played the first crisis failed.  We spent the rest of the game trying to suss them out, tossing people from the group only to find out someone had made a mistake and put the wrong thing in the pile.    It was pretty funny but also made the entire game pointless.

Mmmm yea, I feel that even when all of the rules are done correctly lol. It feels like "Upkeep, The Game"

7 Wonders.  It's too dry for my taste.  I really like 7 Wonders Duel though.

It does feel a little bare, Duel is excellent though. Totally agree.

I really haven’t encountered this yet. I tend to be overly positive with most things so I don’t know if I ever well!

In life I am overly positive, in games...I am probably overly critical. Not sure what that says about me lol

Castles of Burgundy. I tried to like it. I tried. But I just couldn't do it. I can see why people like it, but it just doesn't work for me.

I've not really run into that game yet. The closest one for me might be Euphoria.

So I actually got into gaming well before playing Catan and from the very first time I played it I hated it.  I don't mind losing in games but I hate in Catan how you may not be able to do anything but roll dice on your turn because you have no resources.

It's actually most of the "classic" games like

I certainly can see why they're loved but I just don't every desire to play them again.

Supporter13 months ago

I don t know, I still like them. Even though they ve lost some of the magic and I might chose any game over them.
But I think sometimes I can even be convinced to play Monopoly :D
One classic that so many people like but I just can t enjoy it so much is not a board game, it is a card game called POKER :)

We must be opposites because I love to play poker still, haha!

Gotta get some of those Carcassonne expansions in your life, they definitely spice it up.

I would definitely still play all of those games. That’s not to say that there aren’t better options, but those games are still fun.
