Soooo Christmas is around the corner and I figured putting a character expansions for TMB should be in order this year. Nice and cheap and would add so much to an already great game! I wanted to see which Gearlocs you think I should ask for??

There are other Gearlocs available, but I might wait to get to get some of these standard expansions first! Let me know what you think sounds interesting!

Had to give the "haha" face after seeing the post title :)

Seemed inevitable but it makes sense, considering it adds so much replay value. How many plays have you been able to squeeze in so far? And how well has this been received by others? Or... I guess the bigger question is, how difficult was it for others to digest the rules?

Edit: I voted for Gasket

Lol, it is inevitable...

I have gotten 3 plays in solo, and 2 plays in multiplayer. It really is not a hard game to teach and learn as long as someone functions kind of like a DM. You do not need to teach everything on the front end, just the basics and the rest of the game flows from there. The biggest thing is to make sure each person knows how their Gearloc works and how to maximize their tech trees. I have only played multiplayer with the same two people, not sure how it will go from there! My goal is to have my wife try it out once we finish Aeon's End and I think that will be a good barometer.

That's good to hear, I'll probably take on several solo sessions before I try to bring my wife on board.

Looking forward to hearing how your wife thinks about this game! Is Aeon's End Legacy close to finishing?

Any idea when you will pull the trigger?

We will see! I fear it may be too much, but I am very positve she will enjoy Gloomhaven JAws of the Lion. We are on Scenario 6 out of 8 for Aeons End so three more sessions if we do not lose!

I second this, the game structure is pretty simple and the rules that need to be teached upfront are not many. The hardest part is teaching how to get around character sheets so that new players know where to look and how to upgrade and use abilities. Apart from this, the meat of the game is in battles and can be explained mostly while playing a battle.

Also there are definetly harder characters to start with. For example, I'd never teach the game to a less expirienced player using stanza (very different core mechanics). Similar to stanza probably ghasket, interns and dart.

Definitely, I would recommend the base game Gearlocs to start and teach and branch out from there I think!

I'd recommend gasket from this list since It's the one with the more unique mechanics. I bought nugget as one of my first character expansions though, and she's real fun. Tink is sadly the weakest gearloc from what I've read and more so in solo, still interested in him tho.

You said "from this list", do you have any other recommendations? Undertow is probably out of the question so that leaves Dart and Lab Rats?

In that case, lab rats! But only cause they look super fun heh. But tbh honest you can't go wrong with gasket or nugget.

I havent looked into them much but they seem super interesting!

I vote for mech dude. That seems different and fun.

The mech is definitely different than most other Gearlocs!
