My lovely little lot of loot

These were my additions from Christmas:

#Watergate - a really enjoyable little game for 2. It has a elegance in it's simplicity and while their is an element of luck with card draw, there is a deck destruction element to the game and you cycle through your deck multiple times so it's not significant I don't feel. It has a great tigbof war feel to it and is constantly tense. Would recommend although have only played once so far.

#Scrabble - haven't played it in at least a decade but such an solid game. We've played it twice in the last few days and it has been a delight both times. If you have an old copy or see one going cheap you will not regret giving it a go. It is just as much tactics and area denial as it is about making words. Especially at 2 player.

#Spirit Island - a very exciting surprise, haven't tried it out yet but it has been on my radar for ages. Cannot wait to kick some colonial butt (or more likely get crushed under the oppressive heel of the invaders for a while and then maybe kick some butt)

#Targi - not got this one to the table yet, but it has a great reputation so looking forward to it.

Not quite on the scale of some of you but we are almost out of storage space and I have realised I have plenty of game to be getting on with and mostly just want people to play with.

Nice set of games, Bob! Can't wait until you get to Spirit Island just to see how it goes for you. After my first play I thought the game was pretty difficult. Then the next time we gave it a go with a different combo of spirits and shockingly won..so shocking we didn't realize it for a few minutes haha.

I really wanna add Targi to my GameNerdz hold from my giveaway win if it ever comes back in stock

Do you feel like it was the combo of spirits that won it for you or you just understood the game better?

I think my first game was solo with 2 spirits then the next time I played with Sarah who hadn't played before. So it certainly wasn't because she understood the game better lol. But I picked the spirits for us because I understood how to balance them after my first play went terribly. So maybe a combination of both.

I've yet to play Scrabble but I know I'd have good time with it haha

Of these I'm most interested in Watergate. I've seen it recommended so many times for 2p

Watergate was really good, it stayed tense the whole way through and I feel like that it will always be that way. I reckon it is going to end up near the top of our 2P list. Also Scrabble is just great, someone really knocked it out the park when they put that game together.

I agree with you, #Scrabble is actually a good and fun game.

I am really curious how #Spirit Island will land for you. Most people adore it, but for some, it just doesn't click.

He was talking about me. It never clicked right for me.

I did think of you...

It's been one that I have admired from afar for a while so I have high hopes. I feel like I am also more in favour of co-op games than the community at large, so we shall see. I can't remember, have played it at all?

I have played it a number of times, all solo. It's a great game, the more I played it the more I saw the gears running....but I still think it's a great game and one I like.

What do you mean by 'saw the gears running'?

Good question.

When I started playing the game, I thought that it felt very thematic. And, indeed, many people consider it to be quite thematic. However, the more I played it, the more the mechanism-forward it seems. Now, when I play it, it feels more like playing with a finely crafted set of mechanisms. This is not bad, and it took me 7-10 plays to get there, but it is something I don't like quite as much as the original thematic overtones that I had experienced.

There is a seperate issue which is probably a bit of a bigger deal for me. The end of this game stinks. It really is dissappointing, the whole game is so good, and then the end.... just happens. The anticlimatic end is the one feature that does make this game a little less then perfect.

Played watergate a couple of times and enjoyed it. Spirit Island is just an amazing game!  I hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

Yeah, always on the look out for solid 2-player games for my partner and I. I am interested to see if it keeps feeling fresh on repeated plays.

Spirit Island I cannot wait to try out.

I would think that learning all the cards would open up another layer of depth to it. I suppose a great many plays could make it stale but at that point there might be an expansion or you’ll have got your money’s worth anyways!

It was cool to realize that about #Scrabble as well.  My dad and my sister have an ongoing game and my dad is super proud of the fact that he has a terrible vocabulary but is great at scrabble because its more about putting the right letters in the right places and not setting up the other player for any potential big words.

For sure, we both really back ourselves into a corner (or I guess away from) the last game as neither was willing to give the other access to the double/triple word scores.

Haha yeah its like a game of chicken.  "Who will have to play there first??"

Wow, this is a great set of games! I admit that I've only played 2 of them ( #Scrabble and #Targi), but the other two often get high praise. You'll have to let us know how they go!

Wow, absoultuly love all of your additions. Own Watergate myself and it's always a blast to play. Have been looking to add Spirit Island and Targi for a while now but both are always out of stock.
