Game Collection

  • How long have you been in the hobby? How long have you been collecting?

For whatever reason I could only get the one picture to load.  I've been playing modern board games for about 3-4 years now.  Probably got started after playing Magic the Gathering for years and then being introduced to Dominion about 4 years ago or so.  It was all downhill from there.  I used to make fun of a friend for having so many games.

  • How would you describe your board game preferences?

Like my beer I like a good well designed game.  I'd prefer something easier to teach that I can get my family into but I love more complex games such as Scythe or Gloomhaven as well (maybe more deep than complex?).  I am not a big fan of a game like War of the Ring (a great game by the way) as there are more variables then I care to consider in the gameplay.  It feels a little too much like chess and I like my focus to be narrowed a bit more.

  • What are the favorites in your collection? Why?

#Heaven & Ale still remains one of my top games to this day.  #Scythe or #Gloomhaven are around #2 and I would put #Paladins of the West Kingdom near the top as well.  #Wingspan and #PARKS should get mentioned among this list as well.

  • What is your least favorite (or least played) game in your collection? Why?

I still have #Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 Legacy & #Charterstone sitting on my shelf unplayed.  Too soon for one and family is not ready for the other.  #Founders of Gloomhaven & #Firefly The Game don;t get played much due to their size and complexity though I look forward to having folks over again one day to play.

  • What do you like about your collection? Is there anything you'd change?

I like the variety in my collection and having a game for almost any occasion or gaming preference.  If I could change something I'd have an entire closet dedicated to boardgames only.

  • Which game would you absolutely LOVE to add to your collection and why?

I would love to add #DinoGenics to my collection because I like dinosaurs because I guess I'm still a kid and I like the game style with the theme.  I'd love to compare playing it with Dinosaur Island and see what my family things as well.

  • Feel free to add anything else to this!

I would love to dabble with play-testing games but family life never really allowed time for conferences and getting into places where I can do that regularly.  I've toyed with the idea of posting a video with my kids playing through a game just for fun.  I send feedback on rules and whatnot on Kickstarter whenever possible and helped a friend with this one time.

That #Scythe box...

My brother got that for Christmas for me one year.  I have all the expansions in it.  I'm currently working on 3D printing the player containers for each faction.  Takes awhile.  3D filament is expensive and I'm printing each faction in their own color,

What game do you have between #Architects of the West Kingdom and #Paladins of the West Kingdom? I don't recognize the box side.

"If I could change something I'd have an entire closet dedicated to boardgames only."
So say we all.

I do kind of like that shelf though! I love that the games are sort of out of the way but still within view.

Battlestar Galactica is such an amazing show.

And by closet, you mean 'room', right?

Of course

I want to buy Cards Against Humanity. What do you think?

I find the game humorous and enjoy it. It's a party game and I would have to go through and pull cards depending on who I was playing with. It won't be for everyone but not a bad icebreaker.

Amazing collection.  You almost need to post one of those 360 degree photos so we can experience the entire room.

This is the other side of the shelf that's hard to see and the game closet which I left out previously.  Not 360, but better.https://www.boardgameatlas.com/forum/YSL8THYKpG/game-collection

How do you like Founders of Gloomhaven?

I like it a really look forward to playing it with someone else. It's fairly heavy though so I haven't been able to get my family to play. Once we don't have to quarantine as much (next summer maybe?) I hope to play with friends who would enjoy a heavier game.

Let us know how it plays with more people once you get the chance, it's not one I have read too much about (maybe I have just seen 'Gloomhaven' and assumed stuff is about the main game)

It's set in the same "universe" and is a tile laying, trickle down point scoring game with a voting mechanics built in and several factions focusing on different resources or abilities. You start the game with access to a "basic" resource and link them to "build" (lay a tile down) that links to the other resources required for that tile (even if another player owns the resource).  You start with a hand of cards (basic actions) and can build this up throughout the game to take better actions.

Completing the game "unlocks" some city and road event cards you can then add to your Gloomhaven game...that's the main connections between the two.

Also When I think of Heaven and Ale I think of #Glen More II: Chronicles since they have a similar roundel mechanic, have you looked into that at all?

I haven't.  I'll have to check that one out :)

Very good! I like that high shelf you have, I am assuming you have to be pretty careful to not scrape on the ceiling?
