Weekly challenge: Collection

Supporter

Here is a Pano of my game room.

How long have you been in the hobby? How long have you been collecting?

Some of this dates back 30 years, but mostly I have been collecting for just shy of 20 years.

How would you describe your board game preferences?

I really like Euros the best. I also like Dexterity games. Co-ops are less my style unless they are dungeon crawls. But I work to have lots of different types of games.

What are the favorites in your collection? Why?

I have several games that I painted out. Those include #Star Wars the Queen's Gambit, descent  first Edition and all the expansions,  #Risk 2210 A.D. Board Game, #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar, #Warhammer Quest#Scythe and more. I also have upgraded many games with unique bits, 3-d printed parts and other items. Those are all the ones I am most proud of because of all of the work I put into them.

But I have a lot of unique peripherals that I like too, like the original watercolor paintings of third edition Settlers of Catan and signed books by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson.

Also on the RPG side, I've painted about 2500 miniatures for tabletop D&D. I'm super happy to have those.

What is your least favorite (or least played) game in your collection? Why?

My washer and Dryer are in my game room. I don't have a place to put them, but I'd like them gone so I can add more shelves. :) I also have about 30 games I need to sell to make more room, but haven't mustered the effort required to do something about it.

What do you like about your collection? Is there anything you'd change?

I like the variety, diversity and breadth of the collection. I love being able to 'find the right game' for someone by asking them a series of questions about what they like.

Which game would you absolutely LOVE to add to your collection and why?

I'd like to have a first edition woodgrained Original D&D boxed set. I have the white collectors edition, but that first one would be awesome to have.

Feel free to add anything else to this!

I need more room!

re: RPG minis - when Sam sold his minis collection, this is what it looked like

Wow, that is amazing!

That is pretty amazing. I haven't put all of mine out in one place yet. I don't actually have any of the prepainted D&D. I have a mix of Reaper Bones, Dwarven Forge, then old school Ral Partha, Grenadier etc.

As I remember, Sam had already sold all of his metal minis earlier. He also had a bunch of Dwarven Forge for a while. Beautiful stuff, if you have a place for it and a chance to use it.

Yeah. Covid isn't helping me use it...

I love how your crokinole board looks

Supporter4 months ago

That one was an early kickstarter from Mayday. The board isn't perfect. I have another board (a muzzie) that I keep in my office for lunch play.

Sorry the board isn't as great as it looks.

Mayday had a lot of production issues back in the day. I don't know how they are now.

It is a beautiful board, but the picture has some issues, some dings and such. Crokinole is a game that requires it to be very precise. My Muzzie board is perfect. It was also twice the price so there is that.

Dang! An entire room full of games is the dream!

I was allowed to pick one room to touch when we moved. I may have overcompensated.

Must look so cool when you get to pull out a whole bunch of miniatures for your D&D battles

It really is fun. Here are a couple of shots of adventures we have done.

Looks like some pretty epic moments unfolding! Do you tend to DM your games or be a player?

Supporter4 months ago

I generally play, though some of the scenes above were in games I was DM

Awesome collection and love all the machines around the room...pinball video games and slots...wish i had the room for all that!

WOW. Any idea how many board games you have at this point? Also, what's your favorite dexterity game?

Supporter4 months ago

Good question. Maybe 500+ with expansions.

Favorite is a tough one on dex games. Maybe Hammsterolle, but my friend made one that is a 24" board with four castles that you shoot 6 siders into other peoples castles that is truly amazing.
