CloudAge - How To Play and Official Rulebook Released

CloudAge is a new strategy game coming from Alexandar Pfister, the designer of the highly acclaimed Great Western Trail, Maracaibo, and more. You can check out this previous post for more info or visit the game page, but here's a quick recap for convenience:

  • Theme: "Fifteen years ago, the anarchic collective “Cloud” sabotaged countless oil production sites around the world in a coordinated attack. The resulting environmental catastrophe had disastrous effects on the entire planet. Now, years later, you travel above the dried-out landscape in your airships, searching for a better life. You visit cities, send out drones to collect resources, and battle Cloud militia."
  • Mechanisms: Engine-building, deck-building, resource management, a campaign system, and an "innovative sleeving mechanism"
  • Gameplay length and complexity: According to Alexander, the gameplay will be under 2 hours and will be of "medium weight" complexity

Latest Updates

There's been very limited info on the game for a while, but the publishers have recently released the official rulebook and a YouTube video showing off what the game's about.

Final Thoughts

I'm not a big fan of the overall aesthetics, to be honest. But, I'm going to remain optimistic and look forward to all of the unique mechanics the game has to offer. After all, I've been eager to try out a game by Alexander and have been unable to make the call between Great Western Trail and Maracaibo.

I've pre-ordered CloudAge and it's expected to arrive late November or early December. So if you're hesitant and want a better grasp on the gameplay, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for future updates!

I sorta like how it looks. It's not my favorite, but I sorta like it. I too am going to be interested in what you think of it.

Hesitant but hopeful as well.  This is going to have to do some things really well for me to make a purchase.

I'm excited to see your thoughts once you get it.  This game is slightly intriguing to me, but I can't fully engage in it until there is more content to see what it's about.  I do like the sound of the theme.  But, I have to temper my excitement until I see more.

I am very excited for this one.  The aesthetic is much different than what has come out from Pfister as of late and I think that's a good thing. His games are always clever and generally don't disappoint.  Will also be reading the rules soon to get a feel for it....
