One of my approaches with games is trying to pick a strategy in the beginning and just sticking to it. It's most effective in games that have some sort of engine building mechanics. I generally think that submitting to one focus versus trying lots of things usually gets me ahead.

Played Root with trentellingsen and lost again, but much closer this time around. Things I did differently compared to the first:

  • Built fewer sawmills - It actually isn't too bad living off of just 1 or 2 sawmills, I didn't feel that much limitation in my resources throughout the game.
  • Focused on building workshops - Cats seem to thrive off of crafting, which can grant passive effects allowing increased number of actions/battles, an easy boost in victory points, and getting more cards into your hand (which increases your chances of getting the bird cards that you could potentially use for extra actions).
  • Cats can recruit and scatter across the map pretty quickly, so I took on the offensive a bit more this time around and kept the Birds at bay buy destroying the Roosts.

Hopefully I can win next time around haha

One thing I was thinking about was if I were to play the Marquis against the Decree I'd work really hard to make sure that the decree falls apart. I think since I had it fall twice it really held me back compared to our previous game where I was able to do a whole bunch.

Was thinking about this after the game, playing in my head some of the different choices I could have made to do what you're talking about :(
