Your Dream Board Game Search Engine

I asked this question on a forum long time ago: "What kind of features would you love to see in a board game search engine?"

Here are some of the responses I got:

  • Length of setup
  • Minimum age advice
  • Weight of the game
  • Designer
  • Artist
  • Number of players
  • Euro/non-Euro
  • Competitive vs. co-op
  • Suggestions for similar games
  • Year of publication
  • Awards (e.g. Spiel Des Jahre)
  • Search results highly tailored for user's preferences for certain categories of games or mechanics
  • Degree of luck
  • Duration of game
  • Table space taken up
  • Theme/category
  • Difficulty to teach
  • Primary mechanics
  • Number of times played
  • Time since last play
  • Historical period

What are some other practical/fun/game changing ideas you have?

Our group has often wanted a search that we could look at the number of players allowed in games we own. The situation is like this: we have 7 people here, what can we play? To be able to look that up would be great.

That's a very practical need haha. Some of these options are already built into the advanced search to an extent but it definitely needs some streamlining.

How about a search engine or game ranker showing percent played vs purchased?  :)

That's a really interesting idea! Makes me curious how a lot of the trending/popular games would fare.

I have no idea if the data is there to support it of course but it would be interesting.  I don't even know if it would be super useful to be honest other than being interesting.  :)
