What games did you buy over sales time?

Curious what ya'll bought over the sales around Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday and the weeks that surrounded it.

I kept my purchases very small because I have other things going on, but, I did buy.... 7 Ronin and Porta Nigra.

I almost bought Champions of Midgard. I haven't played it, but it seemed like a good game at a great price. But, I just didn't think that my group would like it and it doesn't support solo play.

That's a good haul.

It is! I’m super excited, though I probably won’t get to play either for a minute

Marshwiggle92 Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

I can understand that.

I bought the new reprint of Cartagena and Welcome to Centerville, both for 50% off on Black Friday. I also bought Cuba Libre (the original reason I went to my FLGS that day)...and Falling Sky. So, three out of four games were basically impulse purchases. Not too bad, I guess, lol!

indigopotter Supporter42 days ago | 1 point[-]

I have and enjoy both Cartagena and Welcome to Centerville... plus I like saying I own a GMT game.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter42 days ago | 2 points[-]

LOL

pacman88k 42 days ago | 1 point[-]

Which GMT game is it, Twilight Struggle?

indigopotter Supporter42 days ago | 1 point[-]

Welcome to Centerville

HA! Awesome!  XD

I ended up with some simple games like Exploding kittens, Dr. Eureka, Planet and I also bought Parks :)
I wanted to get Troyes from Target, but I missed it...

JamesReid860 Supporter42 days ago | 2 points[-]

Nothing wrong with getting “simple” games. I want to get parks in my collection too!

I ended up buying Helionox: Deluxe Edition and then Dixit, both at historic lows when I did. Whoo hoo!!

Skurvy5 Supporter44 days ago | 3 points[-]

I’ve never heard of Helionox but from the description it sounds quite cool. Has it hit your table yet?

NAGfactor Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

I have only been able to play it solo so far. I did quite enjoy the game, although this was my first true deck-builder experience so don't put too much stock in my words.

My cons for the game mostly are around components. The board is double sided but it won't lay flat and is almost a little concave  when placed on one side. This may correct itself overtime but not sure (didn't necessarily affect game play, and technically you don't need the board at all). They have defense resource tokens that are that exact same shape and color as a players embassies. Also, during the unboxing all the the cards were mixed together instead of sorted so I spent the first few moments sorting the cards into their respective categories.

Pros: I do believe they have a good selection of cards to build with throughout the game. The game didn't seem like it was dragging on. In Helionox you know how many turns you have left because of the event deck. It feels like the right amount of time(of course I have only played solo) to build up a deck. I also enjoy the discarding and draw rule for this game which helps you get through your deck quicker.

Overall for me I think it is a keeper and happy I only paid $20.

All the deck builders that I’ve unboxed have required lots of sorting before the first play. I think that’s just how it is.

NAGfactor Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

Well that makes me feel a little better.

JamesReid860 Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

I’ve wondered how Helionox plays.

Skurvy5 Supporter44 days ago | 2 points[-]

I picked up: Rise of Fenris, Fog of Love, Champions of Midgard, and Kingdomino.

JamesReid860 Supporter43 days ago | 2 points[-]

Nice haul!

Marshwiggle92 Supporter44 days ago | 2 points[-]

I really want fenris.

Skurvy5 Supporter44 days ago | 2 points[-]

It wasn’t even really on sale, but I’m going to play it solo.

menthabrw Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

I am waiting for a sale on Rise of Fenris for long, but I saw only once on GameNerdz already out of stock, in less than about an hour. So I think I should just buy it too.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter44 days ago | 1 point[-]

I'm curious how it goes solo.

I grabbed Takenoko a month ago, might have been before Black Friday.  And then recently we picked up Small World for xmas my son who enjoys the app and game.

theDL 42 days ago | 1 point[-]

Surprisingly, I didn't buy anything for myself. I bought a Keyforge starter pack for a friend of mine so we can play together.

BenjaminK 42 days ago | 1 point[-]

I picked up Ice Cool. Gonna be a Christmas gift for all of us from You Know Who (i.e. the big man in red).

HooperGirl 42 days ago | 1 point[-]

Great game!  I got it on clearance last year at Target for something crazy like $9.  I bought an extra for a gift.

BenjaminK 41 days ago | 1 point[-]

Dang! $9 is a steal! I got mine for pretty low, but not that low! Still, I think it's worth retail for it, so any sale is good for me :)

HooperGirl 41 days ago | 1 point[-]

Crazy cheap!  I wanted to buy all the cheap copies but I couldn't justify more than 2. hahahahah

Marshwiggle92 Supporter41 days ago | 1 point[-]

It dissappeared from my cart when I put it in. I was too slow.

HooperGirl 41 days ago | 1 point[-]

Aww bummer. I found these in my local store. I always check the clearance endcap in the toy section!

JamesReid860 Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

None for me. Missed on Champions of Midgard both times :(

Marshwiggle92 Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

I had persuaded myself to buy it when they ran out. Part of me is sort of relieved. Part of me is unhappy for reasons listed above.

philryuh Supporter42 days ago | 1 point[-]

Same here, relieved I didn't end up going for it because as much as I'd probably enjoy the game, it'll be difficult to get out for the group. It might be a different story though if after my wife and I hit several sessions of Viticulture, if I find she'll enjoy CoM

JamesReid860 Supporter43 days ago | 1 point[-]

Yeah that makes it though. My group hasn’t gravitated to worker placement either. But I thought this one could be another one to try.

indigopotter Supporter44 days ago | 1 point[-]

I was so busy posting sales, I didn't buy anything for myself. As I said at the time, it's kind of like working the dinner shift at a restaurant. I did pick up a small card game second-hand, but I can't say what it is because it's a surprise for my husband.

philryuh Supporter42 days ago | 2 points[-]

I was actually wondering that while reading your article. Thanks for looking out for us Carol! :)

indigopotter Supporter42 days ago | 1 point[-]

You're welcome

Yes. Thanks for posting.
