Had anyone tried the choose your own adventure games?

I'm curious what people who have played the choose your own adventure games think?  I read them a lot as a kid and have a lot of great memories based off the novels, but the score on bgg makes me a little nervous.  So for those who have played them.  Did you enjoy it, or what are things that disappointed you?  How did it work with a group?  I am always looking for games to get my children involved.  Any thoughts?  I would love to get your recommendation on either of these games?

Might be awhile, picked it up on a virtual flea market so I don’t get my filthy mitts on it for another month.

Do you mean an RPG style game?  Because I know they have a few of those geared towards kids and they are basically choose your own adventure but you still need a Game/Dungeon Master.  One game that has a book out that is well reviewed by parents (that I myself want to get as maybe a Christmas gift for my kids) called Amazing Tales.  There is also an expansion The Big Book of Amazing Tales is on Kickstarter now.

Hopefully this helps and is what you are looking for.

These look cool Scott. How old are your kids? So I can see if I should check those games out for my family.

My oldest is 7, then it's 3.5, 2, and 2 months (so some of them have a ways to go).  The games we currently play together are (Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-KarMy Little ScytheSushi Go!Pandemic: IberiaBargain Quest, and a modified version of Star Wars Imperial Assault) . I sometimes start with modified rules or fewer rules and introduce more later.  For instance on Sushi Go! I skipped some of the cards and added a new type of card with each play.

I’ve got 8, 5.5, and 2.5. My oldest got My Little Scythe for her birthday. It’s been really fun! Grandma and grandpa are actually coming over tonight for a game night to play it.

Awesome!  My daughter got it for her 6th Birthday.  She played twice on a team and now she's not allowed to play with an adult.  Sometimes I give her a few options toward the end of the game on what she can do but ultimately make her decide.  We've played 4 times with her on her own team and we are tied 2-2.  Have fun!

They are legit CYOA games.  See the link at the bottom.  I'm always looking for a good game though.  I'll check out amazing tales.

I see them at Barnes & Noble all the time, but never have given them a shot!

Also B&N has some good games...I saw Wingspan there once!

The most boring yet most dangerous of times: waiting for the shopping female.
