@jameystegmaier from Stonemaier Games is working on a cooperative, exploration, open world game inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild! Stonemaier Games' combination of streamlined design, great components, and overall accessibility typically goes a long way for me and my wife, so I'm looking forward to it since there's a big hole in my collection for a game of that type.
So what are you looking forward to the most from Stonemaier Games or from any other publishers? For Stonemaier Games, this year will also see a new Wingspan expansion and an expansion for Tapestry that aims to address balance issues and add more things. And I'm not sure but there's also a new title under the codename "Sand" that still seems to be set for 2020.

Can't wait for you to release tidbits on how it inspired you and what that actually translated to in terms of theme or mechanisms after the creativity reflection machine/process. Super curious.  Open world exploration inspired board game. cool. I'm envisioning a combo of Cloudspire for neoprene and map style, Mage Knight for aesthetic and Talisman for exploration.  Hey take a look at Wizard Kings on one of your vids for "favorite mechanism" if you would, or at least consider it.

Thanks for your curiosity! I haven't heard of Wizard Kings, but I'll check it out. :)

Awesome! Â That is exciting news. Â I love the idea of something even minimally (or more) inspired by Zelda.

Very much looking forward to seeing what comes of this!
I've actually started working on an open-world game inspired by Zelda as well, just set in a world of my own creation. I'm doing it more as an exploratory concept of my world (although I've also wanted a game like this for a very long time), so I'm excited to see--and play--yours! I love that you're doing this. :)

Love the concept of an open world, "Zelda" like game. My only concern about big adventure games is that they tend to have a lot of game management, whether it's lots of fiddly bits on cards or lots of cards that I need to remember all the details about so that I can play out my turn correctly. Keeping me in the adventure side and not the management side is a big deal to me. Perhaps an app to help mitigate that or just a great system that makes it simple and intuitive to manage multiple specs and abilities without constantly reviewing everything. I'm a bit surprised actually that no one has created a universal system that could be licensed to game designers so they could essentially drop in their ideas and use a system that works great right out of the box. Looking forward to all of your new games. Big fan. Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for sharing that concern, Rich--I share it too. In the design I'm working on, I've tried to remove anything that gets in the way of players feeling immersed in the world. I still have a lot of testing to go through before I feel confident in the action system, but I'm happy where it's headed.

That’s an amazing game, so I’m really excited to hear more! Will it be strictly cooperative?
jameystegmaier 36 months ago
Yep, I'm designing it to be entirely cooperative (though it will have a solo mode).

Did you consider making it a Solo game primarily? I can’t think of any board game examples that focus on Solo first but this kind of game/story style might lend itself to that.
jameystegmaier 36 months ago
No, I'm designing it as a cooperative experience. I'm a multiplayer designer. :)

This is still very exciting! Anything inspired by that game is note-worthy!

Looking forward to learning more about it!!
For people wanting to hear Jamey mention this, here's the Youtube link (he mentions it early in the video), though the video was originally on Facebook live.

I quite enjoyed the between two castles game, so will be interested to see what the expansion adds/changes. Although I feel like adding too much more to that game might end up diluting it too far.

I definitely plan to purchase the next #Wingspan expansion, and probably preorder it! As for other publishers, I guess I'm curious about #Fort from Leder Games, and I recently backed #Dale of Merchants 3 (along with the rest of the game) from Snowdale Design. Beyond that I'm not too sure! I'm somewhat interested in #Raiders of Scythia from Garphill, but I doubt I'll end up buying that one.

I can’t wait for more info on Fort and for the preorder launch.

GET OUT. Once I saw Zelda I knew this would be an interest for me and my wife. I would love an accessible version of Too Many Bones where you have new scenarios that you encounter and level up your abilities with a boss that you are working towards!

Thanks for sharing! Just so people know I'm not working on a Zelda game, it's really the open world exploration of Breath of the Wild specifically that has inspired a game I've been working on for a few years. Hopefully it'll be ready for release in 2021 or 2022! :)
