How did you find Board Game Atlas? Google and Redit. Looking for reviews of board games and other blogs or posts for this wonderful hobby.

How long have you been in the hobby? ~30+ years. I have enjoyed board games since heroquest was originally release back in 1989 and have had monopoly band from our family gatherings by my grandmother due to too many tears back in 1990. I took a break though university and the first couple years of work and have been more involved in the hobby in 2017.

What are your favorite 3 games at the moment? In no particular order. Maracaibo, Viscounts of the West Kingdom, Cooper Island, and a close 4th is Terraforming Mars.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Really enjoy the community here. Super friendly.

#Viscounts of the West Kingdom looks very cool! I've only played #Paladins of the West Kingdom, but I really enjoyed it. I hope to play Viscounts one day as well. Welcome aboard!

Great to have you here! Have you played any of the other West Kingdom games? Just curious how you'd rank them (I've only played #Architects of the West Kingdom)

I have all three. Really love what Shem and Garphill games are producing. Have enjoyed their games since Raiders of the North See and the 2 expansions. As for how I would rank them. I have a soft spot for Paladins personally. Really like the mechanics and the ability to chain a turn together. It is great at all player counts including the solo. Solo I think where it shines. As for Viscounts I have only played solo so can't say much about it so far. It looks really promissing especially in the 3-4 player count. Architects I have found is better with more players. Especially if they have played before. Down time isn't an issue when everyone know how to play. The shear volume of workers in play makes it very fun to play. So solo and low (2-3 player count) ranking I would go with Paladins, Viscount, Architect. Higher player counts (4-5) Architects, Vicounts, Paladins. Hope this helps.

Nice to have you! The community on this site is top notch - always a great conversation to be had. I think#Cooper Island sounds so interesting but I know my fiancée just wouldn't be down to play a heavier game like that. Have you played it solo? If so, do you think it would be worth to get just for that?

I have only played it solo  so far. I like the solo deck and the variety and ability to increase your challenge. Not that you will need to do that anytime soon. It is very low point game and takes a lot of efficiency and can sometimes be unrewarding. I was looking for something that was a challenge and had variability. Cooper Island fit the bill. I can't wait to play this game with my gaming group in person. That might be a while, but I still look forward to it. In the meantime the solo play is totally worth it for me.

Interesting. So you must have not bought it just for solo originally just current times led you down that path?

Thanks for the info though. I think it I'll keep it on my wishlist for now haha

Hi everybody!

1. How did you find Board Game Atlas?

Through the giveaways.

2. How long have you been in the hobby?

More than 15 years, but I had a break for a few years.

3. What are your favorite 3 games at the moment?

#Istanbul, #Carcassonne and #Wingspan

My wife and I play tons of #Carcassonne and #Wingspan! Welcome aboard!

Thank you, it's good to be here!

Welcome. Always good to see another person that rank #Carcassonne so high. It is my favorite. #Wingspan is on my want to play list. In fact it is in the top 3 of that list. I've not looked into #Istanbul much, but I should. It has come up a few times while I researched games.

Thank you, it's nice to be here. #Carcassonne is a classic, I love it. I see that #Istanbul is not very popular here, I wonder why?

Not sure about #Istanbul not being popular. As for me, I've only been really in the hobby for about a year and a half, so I'm still searching out games and figuring out what to play and buy. I have seen some good things about Istanbul, but I haven't had a chance to research as much. However, with #Carcassonne being my favorite game and #Wingspan being near the top of my want list, it sounds like we might have some similar taste. I might have to dig a little deeper on Istanbul.

Buy#Wingspan! It's my absolute favorite game.#Istanbul is another great one that I sold because we weren't playing it enough. Kinda wish I didn't lol

I definitely need to buy #Wingspan. I am still trying to grow my collection, and I'm on a limited budget. This means I often gravitate to games on my wishlist that are cheaper. However, Wingspan is in my top 3 wants. I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I really need to. #Five Tribes is also in my top 3 wants, and I haven't bought it for the same reason. They both cost $50-$60 on average. I tend to buy games on sale when then get down to around $20-$30.

Premium User44 days ago

Yeah I hear ya. Although I would also be in the camp of Wingspan is totally worth it without a sale :P

You're probably right. I normally get some gift cards or money from some relatives at Christmas, so I might have to pick up Wingspan. I've been wanting it for a while.

Premium User44 days ago

Turn that might into a will LOL.

I just did the same with giftcards I got. Now I'm the proud owner of 2 games and an expansion I don't know where to put. Gift cards are a blessing and a curse..

Agreed

Nice to have you! Those 3 were some of the first games I ever purchased! Only one I don't have still is#Istanbul which I ended up selling. Might be the one game I sold I actually regret to some point lol. Have you ever sold or traded a game you wished you could get back?

I actually got #Istanbul: Big Box for 26€, it was a real bargain and it was on my list wish for a long time, so I was really happy.

I haven't sold or traded any of my games, so no regrets. There's only one game I bought and noone in my group liked it, so after this pandemic is over I'll probably sell. The game is #Reef. What are some games you regretted buying?

Premium User48 days ago

I didn't even know there was a big box for it lol. What's in it?

I've never played Reef but I've seen it played and it looks cool at least lol. I'm sure someone will buy it from you. Do you know if there's enough opportunity for local trades or sales where you live? Around me I don't think there's a ton unless I wanted to sell to someone in my meetup group haha

I think the biggest one for me was#The Estates. I thought my in laws would really enjoy it as they liked#Chinatown and are a little more cutthroat than we are usually. It was a big flop so I traded it away

Oh I forgot to write about Istanbul The Big Box. It's the base game and all the expansions in one box. We're playing the base game for now and when we get bored we'll add one expansion at the time.

Premium User47 days ago

I honestly had no idea it had expansions haha
