Good to be back!

Wow! This semester has been so busy, visiting the forums and joining the great community conversations here has slipped my mind or gotten pushed off for months!  What have I missed?

Also, with christmas coming up, I'm looking for a great 2 player board game. (It can support more than 2, but it's gotta work with 2. What's your favorite and why?

Its good to be back!

My favorite games to play two player are,

Race for the Galaxy and Dominion: Second Edition

walterbd 9 days ago | 2 points[-]

Ah yes, Dominion! A friend and I have played through all the cards in the game, save 3 expansions that he doesn't have. Unfortunately it's not the other person I'd like to play games with (my GF) cup of tea. I've never played Race for the Galaxy! I'll look it up!

I'll second Race. I think it is one of the best two player games out there. 7 Wonders dual is great for 2, but doesn't play more.

Wow, all these games ive never heard of. i must be really out of the loop!

Rftg is fairly old. But it is still great, and fairly cheap. But, it is not the easiest game for a nongamer to pick up.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

Been loving Everdell at 2 players! If you're looking for something smaller, I've also been enjoying Santorini. Something even smaller? The Fox in the Forest!

walterbd 9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Im looking into Santorini! it looks really fun! but is it super replayable or does it get old fast?

Ive never seen Fox and the forest but ive heard that its good. i didnt realize it was simpler than Santorini!

theDL 9 days ago | 1 point[-]

For me it's very replayable. It's an abstract strategy game with simple rules and allows for many different strategies. Add on top that the "God" powers and you've got tons of different combinations. I'd say it offers nearly endless replayability!

I'm not sure Fox in the Forest is simpler than Santorini, but it's physically MUCH smaller, which is nice.

tiny games are always appealing! :D especially if they are simple and re-playable!

Something smaller than Fox in the Forest? Rock Paper Scissors lol

walterbd 2 days ago | 1 point[-]

haha classic!

JamesReid860 2 days ago | 1 point[-]

Doesn’t get more classic than that!

I wish I had the ability to know more strictly two player games but I can never get only two player games in.  Having said that I've heard Viticulture is a favorite for two player games and that is also one of my favorite games in general.

walterbd 9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Cool! Isnt that by the same guys as Scythe?

sdirrane Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Yes both Stonemaier Games both in my top list.

walterbd 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

Sweet! I'll look into it!

What are some of your favorite 2 player games?

Edit: Great to have you back! Is it winter break yet?

walterbd 9 days ago | 2 points[-]

Well the person I want to get this for / play with (My GF) doesn't play a lot of games. I like Dominion, but I'm not sure that's up her alley. We play cribbage and battleship and other card games currently :)

Thanks! Winter break won't be till the 20th! I'm coming off a very busy thanksgiving break and hoping it's slowed down enough that I can stick around more :D

If she is a non gamer type sometimes simpler coops work well. For instance forbidden island/desert or pandemic.

walterbd 9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Is forbidden island 2 player? i thought it was 4

Marshwiggle92 Supporter8 days ago | 1 point[-]

And you can play it solo.

philryuh Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

It's for 2-4 players. Trent gave away his copy to me and I've been meaning to try it out with my wife :D

walterbd 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

Let me know what you think!

menthabrw 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

The one my wife likes to play the most is Forbidden Desert. She is not a gamer, but we had many fun games with it.  Forbidden Island felt a bit simple so we got bored with that quicker (although we enjoyed it), Forbidden desert still last. Santorini might have more replayability though.

those games have come up a lot in people's answers so i'll have to get both of those!

Skurvy5 Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Welcome back! There are a ton of games that are great at 2 players. What are some themes that you think she would be interested in? I often find that matching a game up to a persons interests can really help them get  into gaming.

walterbd 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

Sorry for the late reply! i think shed like abstract games, or farming/ag stuff. she doesnt mind light themes like Clank so long as theres nothing scary/creepy i think it would work well!

JamesReid860 4 days ago | 1 point[-]

My wife and I like Clank! at two and if you haven’t yet 7 Wonders Duel is a good one

walterbd 2 days ago | 1 point[-]

Oo i dont think 7 wonders has been suggested yet. is it fairly aimple to pick up?

JamesReid860 2 days ago | 1 point[-]

Yes it is pretty simple to pick up especially if you’ve played regular 7 Wonders before.
