My wife, son, and I played a couple games of #Marvel Champions: The Card Game. We're still somewhat new, with only about a half-dozen games under our belt. We've been going through all the hero decks, playing through to see what we like best.
This week, we tried out Spiderman/Justice, Black Widow/Protection, and Captain Marvel/Aggression, followed by Ant-Man/Leadership, Ms Marvel/Aggression, Spider-Woman/Justice&Protection. Both resulted in wins, but we're playing in Standard mode so not too surprising.
The standouts were the Ant-Man decks for sheer fun, and Spider-Woman for some amazing versatility.

I've also been playing a lot of MC. The mod community is extremely active and I love so much of their work. I'm going to hopefully teach it to friends over TTS soon.

I'm going to definitely have to check this one out. Anything Marvel related I know would go over well with my future in-laws for theme alone. Just have to make sure it's not overly complex as they aren't gamers
I really like it. I find it's pretty straight forward. But there's always a little rule interaction or two to look up lol. But just Google it and I guarantee the answer immediately will come up.

Nice! How do you like the game overall! I know it's rated pretty highly.
We love it. Our first game was rough as we weren't clear on the rules and made it way harder on ourselves. But after we each watched a couple of playthrough videos and gave it a second shot, we immediately decided to start buying hero packs.
It's right up there on our list of favorite games. We love the theme, it feels really heroic when you pull off a great combination of actions, and the decks capture the feeling of the heroes's abilities.
That's awesome! I've considered it on and off for a bit. Unfortunately I tend to avoid LCGs as they get quite expensive if you want more than just the base set haha.
Unlike some of the others, you only need one core set here. In that one box you get five heroes and four aspects on the player side, to face off against three villains and five additional side schemes, as well as two levels of difficulty... I'm rambling. My point is there's lots of replayability just in the core box. It's a far cry from, say, Arkham, where once you've seen the campaign once there isn't too much incentive to replay the same story as you're not in for the same sorts of surprises.
Oh cool! That's good. Well I'll keep it on the wishlist :D

#Trains is such a great game. The spatial element with the map doesn't do a huge amount to excite but, but there's something about the deckbuilding that's just exhilarating to me.
I tend to like deck builders with a map or some other element they interact with. Trains does have something to the deck building side that seems extra interesting though doesn't it? I can't quite put my finger on it.
Sounds like a really great week! I played Spirit Island once over TTS too with a friend and we lost pretty handily haha. I think that was just because it was my friend's first time playing and I wasn't trying to help him decide on what to do.
Yeah, it can definitely be a struggle for a first time player. Until you learn (or relearn if you havent' played it in a while) the loop it can be hard to get ahead of things.
Generally I expect to take a blight or two to start off. I focus on clearing territories to avoid upcoming builds etc. Anytime you can empty a space that is about to take a build is a huge bonus that ripples forward.
All of that said, I have only played at the lower levels. I need to play a lot more before I start tackling the medium difficulties. (The last time I tried solo I got smashed.)
I had some success with playing solo with 2 different spirits. I actually found playing with the blight cards is much easier than playing without as the intro game dictates. Unless I'm missing something, with the blight cards, blight you remove gets put back onto the card and can prolong the game where as in the beginner game, it just goes back in the box.
It is also heavily reliant on the combinations of spirits too at least from my experience. You have to have some balance.
Yeah, I typically play with 2 spirits. The synergy is pretty important and a lot of the fun of the game I think.
I also agree on the balance aspect. Have one easy to play solid spirit and then one specialist is cool.
On the other hand, in our game last week we had 2 solid spirits that dealt with defence and attack and 2 fear specialists. We were able to hold them off enough to drive the fear train to the win. They didn't get to flip the blight card until quite a way in to the game which was nice. (We play with the card too.)
Man, I need to play it solo now. Maybe tomorrow night. :)

#Megaland - I sold Machi Koro (Becky and I didn't like it but the kids did) and essentially replaced it with this game. I played it once before at a game group and Target had a buy 2 get 1 free deal going. We played as a family this weekend and everyone loved it and it plays much better than either #Machi Koro or #Diamant of which Megaland seems to be a combination of sorts. I can see us playing this a lot more in the near future.
#Gloomhaven but not the board game the online Steam version. I started a 4-character play on the "insane" difficulty level and have to say it is quite the challenge! I've lost two times on the same scenario but looking forward to running through it again. I am playing a 2 character campaign with another buddy online as well and we have a blast doing that many mornings at 4:30am.
#Maracaibo - I tought Becky how to play this weekend and she seemed to enjoy it. I can tell she is more comfortable with a higher complexity game. I had been looking forward to getting this to the table again and was thrilled to play.

We've been playing a lot of #Megaland here lately. I picked up on clearance at Target for like seven bucks! :)My youngest has really taken to it - he's also a big #Machi Koro fan. I would love to see an expansion with some new buildings and monsters!
Sounds like an awesome week! I can't believe you'd sell a game your kids wanted to play!! But that is good you seemed to find something they like better. I've been interested in the Machi Koro style gameplay but it always seemed a little boring to me. And Diamant gets a lot of play with our game group. I'll have to see if any of them have Megaland.
I can't even imagine Gloomhaven on that difficulty especially at 4. I fail enough as it is on easy
I try to replace games with something similar I think the kids will like. They are getting into Wingspan (at least Taryn is) a little more. Elijah is into Magic the Gathering a lot more. Megaland is terribly named but a great simple game nonetheless.
How much Gloomhaven have you played and what character do you play with? Solo or do you have a group? Coming from my own experience I am curious if there some things you might be doing that make it harder on you than it should be? Just a thought as we did that to ourselves several times inadvertently.
Only ever played OG Gloomhaven twice with a friend and his wife. I believe I was playing as Mindthief cause I thought that name was too hard to pass up. We definitely did a few things wrong when we played. One in particular is the monsters action decks we were taking all their actions and not just what was written on the cards we drew. We unfortunately just haven't gotten back to it again thanks to covid.
I do however have Jaws of the Lion and started that up with Sarah with the tutorial because she hadn't played before. We're liking it so far but hoping it ramps up soon. Maybe you're right and insane wouldn't be so bad haha
Yep, taking ALL the moster actions is definitely insane...lol. That would beyond insane I think.

Last week was a bit slower than the previous one.
I played a grand total of one game, that is the perennial forum favorite...... #Root
I played as the Woodland Alliance, against bird and cat bots. It definitely went a bit smother than last time, thought I handily lost once again.
I am excited to play this more to see how it ends up stacking up for me.
At least you got to play something!
Haha, nice. Do you have a favorite faction so far?
Not sure yet. Maybe the birds??
They are quite interesting to play! I always feel like it's all about to fall apart haha
I sort a like the feeling, in a way.
Like juggling swords!
Got a few rounds of #Startups in. Love that game so much. My girlfriend Sarah doesn't like it so we rarely play it.
Played my second game of #Fort, Sarah loved that one.
My collection really hinges on what she will like, so it's always a heart in mouth moment showing her a new game lol.
