Agricola and Concordia - My Midweight Euro Milestones

Owner

Now that I have these two, I'm done getting all of the games I had wanted for 2020 (at least, within my ~$300 budget per year). Can't wait to try them out! I still haven't gotten to #Clank! Legacy: Acquisitions Incorporated because I need my wife to set aside at least 2 or more hours of her time. Looks like we'll likely play Concordia this weekend.

Hope you all manage to squeeze in some gaming time! Any big acquisitions you have in mind before 2020 ends?

Hey, great to hear from you! I cracked open Agricola on Saturday night and got the gist of how everything works. Hoping to squeeze in a solo session this week before Friday :)

I’d like to acquire one (or more) of the following:

#Maracaibo #Tapestry #Wingspan LOTR Journey through Middle Earth

Supporter6 months ago

Any particular one that you have pegged as the "next" acquisition.

Supporter6 months ago

No. Before the retail stores closed all 3 were available at a shop here in town. Any thoughts?

Supporter6 months ago

Of course I have thoughts, whether they work for you is a completely different question.

Firstly, I count four options instead of three. Thinking about them I would probably go for #Maracaibo.

With your history you are quite likely to win another GAW or two, at that point you can use it to get #Wingspan, or, maybe even #Tapestry.

#The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth Is a reworking of #Star Wars Imperial Assault#Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2nd Edition. Of course, the advantage is that you know that that system works well for you, and you know better what you are getting into. The downside is, it might get a little samey, using the same system. Of course, if you think that youwill be all completionist about this like you are/were with your IA collection, it might be cheaper to get in on it know rather than waiting.

Yes, sorry. Wingspan is in stock at the other game store in town.

The one I was planning on visiting has the other 3 in stock.

I am currently leaning towards Maracaibo, especially after that awesome solosaurus review.

Did they update on Tapestry yet?

Supporter6 months ago

Maybe on the next one. They usually try for every 2 weeks.

Supporter6 months ago

They did seem to like it.

I'm happy that you got these. Hope they work out great for you. As far as acquisitions, the only one I am planning on is the second edition of #John Company whenever it comes up Kickstarter.

Man I tried to getting into John Company and it just did not click for me. What about it appeals to you?

Supporter6 months ago

The theme.....

It looks like wherlegig taking it over from Sierra Madre will make as big a change as there was between #Pax Pamir and #Pax Pamir (Second Edition). Also, it looks like the solo might be possibly be improved for 2e.

When/how did you try it?

I am not sure that it will be that big of changes...though Cole has said that going through it again there has been some tweaking he has been working on. The original was all Cole, I listened to an interview with him on Heavy Cardboard and he was working on it at the same time as his Masters dissertation. I think the core game play will be the same, but some improvements as Cole does. The core of the game just did not interest me much from the videos I have watched. I have not played it myself but I have gotten to the point where I can discern if a game works for me or not after watching a teach and some playthroughs. It just seems like not my preferred type of game, very structured, heavy on the negotiations and so on.

I agree with what you said, mostly.

However, he has said several times, lately, that it is taking a lot more reworking than he expected. I was always interested in it, at least since I read the space Biff review of it. But, what cemented my desire to back 2e when it comes out was a video he put out. https://youtu.be/R7XTR2q15UE is the video.

The first half or so is #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) stuff, but the last hour is discussion around #John Company 2e. It looks like a much better package. I expect it will still be a "messy" game. But I'm not too bothered by that. And then of course there is the component issue. It looks like he is drastically cleaning up the board in a very good way.

I watched the first half of that video to get my Pamir fix, but did not get to John Company. Just checked out the board and it looks completely different! I may need to do some more homework on this update.

I would love to enable you to spend more money... LOL

Honestly...this wouldnt be the first game I bought because of discussion here lol.

Supporter6 months ago

I know that feeling.

A guy in my game group almost always tips my decision over the edge lol. I was not sure about Gaia Project, then he mentioned he really wanted to play...boom bought it. Same thing with Bus. Bad influences.

Gotta love those guys

HECK YES!!! Both are classics and both great. I cannot wait to hear about your experience for both of these!
