If you could change 1 thing about three different games?

There are lots of games I love but only a few that I can't find something I'd change about the game.

#1. Founders of Gloomhaven: I'd make the board look prettier.  It;s a great game with a drag appearance.

#2. Anachrony: I'd make an insert for all those little pieces.  The biggest beef I have about that game is the set up time which takes forever.

#3. Everdell: I'd make all the expansions playable simultaneously.  I'll me trying to find a way to houserule this once I have Spirecrest in hand.

1. Automa for Star Wars Rebellion

2. More app campaigns/allow user created campaigns for Imperial Assault

3. Make my Gloomhaven box close

#2 is being solved with the infinity box and Laserox insert ;)

Oh? I have not seen that!

I'm changing my #1....I'd make an automa for Heaven & Ale

This is actually quite difficult for me, as I feel most of my games play at optimal level.

1. Scythe - Make it a more rich combat experience.  Also, a more compact board for smaller player counts.  Kind of like Tapestry has one side for fewer players.

2. Imperial Assault - Have more Campaigns in the App and a Campaign Creator

3. Clans of Caledonia - I'm going to copy @philyruh on this one and say I'd prefer different artwork.  And include a bottle of whiskey with your purchase, haha.

Do you know about the modular board for Scythe? That can offer a condensed map for lower player counts.

Supporter10 months ago

I did know about it but was unaware of the ability to make into a smaller board.  I'll probably have to seriously consider picking it up.

Scott... do you have Rise of Fenris? You talk about combat for scythe a lot but Fenris definitely improves it.

Supporter10 months ago

I've heard that before but no I don't have it yet.  It's on my list when I win the giveaway this time ;).

Supporter10 months ago

I think before you try all these wonky house rules you should play Fenris. I definitely view Scythe more favorably now after completing the expansion.

Supporter10 months ago

Ok ok.  Maybe Fenris will have to move into my (maybe I'll buy it this year).  But that'll have to be all besides backing Oath (which is likely)

But... I'm not as averse to house rules as you are.  Of course I'm sure the designer probably does a better job making the combat more rich.  You got me back on the Fenris hype train.

I will vouch for Fenris. I am thinking about introducing the Wind Gambit to our next playthrough of Scythe. After two playthroughs with the group that typically comes, I am pondering doing a full play through of Scythe with the Rise of Fenris scenarios. Despite my having played through it I think I can play with folks who have never played Fenris and still enjoy the experience without giving anything away and despite knowing the outcomes.

I'm sure it'll slow down soon.  I have feast and famine days when it comes to comments.

Actually I’d like to change my change for Clans.  When it’s on the table the artwork isn’t the worst.  I’d make the box bigger (even with my awesome insert) it doesn’t quite close all the way.

Definitely agree on a smaller board for lower player counts with Scythe. My line 2 player game was a race to do all the other things because we didn't have to interact until the last couple turns. Even then we probably could have avoided it.

Supporter10 months ago

This is why if I ever played with two players I would definitely add one or two Automa using ScytheKick

That's not a bad idea. The person i'd most likely play with enjoys Automa because he solo games a lot. Even a split action player like in the 2 player variant for 7 wonders could work.

I hear you. But, I do find the two player game of Scythe much more compelling than I expected.

I played the first 5 quests from Rise of Fenris with just one other friend. We had a blast

Fun topic!

#1. Agricola, Caverna, Orleans, Clans of Caledonia, etc - the one drawback for me with these games (I haven't played them but will be getting some of them just because how well rated they are) is the art. Some of them are ok (e.g. Orleans) but Klemens Franz' illustrations don't work well with me.

#2. Root - make it a solid two player experience where all factions are usuable (I know, I'm asking for too much haha)

#3. Great Western Trail - I'd change the box cover design to be more than just three heads of dudes.

Not the best artwork...it looks so lame...but for some reason I love it hahaha

Supporter10 months ago

It is funny. Klemens Franz's artwork isn't the greatest it works for me.

But I do wonder how many complaints about artwork this post will engender.

Great Western trail does have a very strange cover for what it is. The floating heads could be in the background, a missed opportunity for sure.

Supporter10 months ago

Not even just 3 heads... but 3 heads with uniquely constipated expressions.

Supporter10 months ago

I almost thought the same thing with Root, and I do believe it's a challenge.  I think it can be done with a Better Bot being run.  I think it would be hard for Root to work the way it's supposed to at two players.  Part of the fun is working around what the others at the table are doing.

I'll just need to wait for my son to get older lol
