Are the upcoming holiday sales going to get you?

Supporter

The biggest board game sales of the year are just around the corner. Are you prepared to resist or are you actually looking forward to it? Which one are you preparing for--Black Friday or Christmas? And which games would tempt you the most if a major sale came up?

Top 5 games on my wishlist are:

  1. #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar - this actually ended up surpassing TMB after I played #Pendulum, which really wasn't the type of game I was hoping for.
  2. #Too Many Bones - Wouldn't it be nice if Chip Theory Games had some holiday promotions? haha
  3. #Nemo's War (Second Edition) - not the best price but I saw it displayed at my local store for $75, which matches Amazon's current price. I didin't pull the trigger since there are times when it's in the $60's range
  4. #Keyflower - still on my wishlist after all this time!

I have room for 4-5 more games on my shelf, and after filling that I plan to take a break from buying for a long while.  So in general, I'm looking to buy stuff.  Since the primary check I place on my buying is to make myself wait for really good deals, big sales are always welcome.

I have a ton of games on my wishlist and I'd be happy to add any of them, but the 5 games I'd most like to pick up are:

  1. #Architects of the West Kingdom
  2. #Food Chain Magnate
  3. #Grand Austria Hotel
  4. #Spirit Island
  5. #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar

Great list, I really want to get Spirit Island at some point. Can absolutely recommend Architects, it is a brilliant game!

I don't usually get to play games before I buy them, relying on reviews and whatnot to make my decisions, but I did get to play Spirit Island last month and really enjoyed it.  I actually didn't think I would like it going in, but it turned out to be great.

Architects has been on my list for a while now, I just haven't caught it on sale yet.  I'm definitely looking forward to that one a lot.

I so want to play it, a friend of mine has it but due to Covid haven't been playing games in person since March :(

What's your interest level of #Viscounts of the West Kingdom? Just curious because it feels like lots of people go through the dilemma of trying to choose which Garphill Games to buy over Raiders, Architects, Paladins, and Viscounts :)

It's on my radar for sure, but I haven't taken an in depth look at it.  Architects was on my wish list before Paladins and Viscounts came out, so I decided to wait until I got and played Architects before looking at the others too much.  I obviously expect to like Architects and, based on what little I know and have heard about the other two, I imagine I'll like them too.

Are those in the order you most want them?

No, no order (except alpha).  My wishlist is divided into 2 categories: Want and Really Want, but I don't get more granular than that.  I just looked at my Really Want list (which has 20 games on it) when writing my previous post and those were the 5 games that jumped out at me.  So I guess that means I have a Really, Really Want list now.

Haha really really want list. I like it. At any rate it's a solid list. I'd recommend the 2 I own #Spirit Island and#Food Chain Magnate which are number 7 and 12 on my top 25 respectively. Although I have always wanted to try both#Grand Austria Hotel and#Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar. Can't really go wrong

My game fund is exhausted for this year sadly.  It would have to be a heck of a sale for me to pull the plug.  I'll be crossing my fingers and hoping for Christmas :)

I think I exhausted them by the first quarter of the year xD......

Same here. I have no plans to buy anything until #Dune: Imperium releases. And then after that I have no plans to buy anything until whenever the Santorini Deluxe thing happens, or #Sol: Last Days of a Star gets a reprint, whichever happens first.

I just picked up #Sol: Last Days of a Star used locally for a total steal. Can't wait to play it!

Whoa really? The secondhand market on that game is crazy!

Yep. The guy sold it to me for $60...

It's hardly used.

Oof, he did not do his research. Congrats! You'll have to let us know how it is!

That is some good self-control

We'll see how long it lasts

The struggle is real! Although for me it is usually, 'Look! A board game at a really reduced price, I may never get another shot at it this cheaply, it makes sense to buy it now rather than pay more later' Rinse and repeat

This is called FOMO (fear of missing out) and it is my worst enemy.

Send help.

Same! If you ever get that help send it my way please lol

That's how they get ya!

Indeed, and they continue to get me! Although seeing as it is charity shops and eBay that is getting me I feel slightly less aggrieved.

When do the best sales usually roll around?

Supporter55 days ago

Very very soon :)

The peak happens throughout November and December. I remember seeing some great deals during Black Friday/Cyber Monday periods too. It's going to be hard to resist if something on my shortlist comes up...

I have seen some really great deals this year, and thus I've bought a lot of games. I should definitely be taking a break this buying season but I'm not confident in my will to resist.

#Too Many Bones is on my list too:)

I'd be stoked for someone here to pick up #Nemo's War (Second Edition) so I can get their thoughts on it!

The Game Brain review of it is very good, if you're looking for a second opinion.
