In The interview with Jamey Stegmaier they touched on apps. Which ones do you play and why? To get more gaming in? To perfect strategy? To learn rules? Just for fun?

I also really like Renegade Game's app (Gamelyn has one for Hero's of of Air Land and Sea). They aren't required to play any of their games but they add new scenarios and events to your game so you can choose to use them or not. Really adds variety!

I have some apps to pass the time, like to bring to a restaurant while we wait so they're to play with a friend. (Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Lanterns, Tirgres and Euprhates) I have some that I like to play by myself (Splendor and Alhambra). And some just for fun and it saves on setup and keeping score (Agricola, Small World, Ticket to Ride).
I also really like the ones that help you set up and keep score. Those are great! I'm going to have to look up the ones you mentioned you used for pass and play... my wife and I will do that from time to time. Which is your favorite?
If you have an iPad, my favorites are Alhambra (just because it's my favorite game anyway) and Lanterns. I've played Splendor and Castles of Mad King Ludwig on an Android tablet, but those are great too.
Thanks for the tip. I do have an iPad. I’ll check those out!

So, i play the terraforming mars app nearly everyday. It's my "play solitaire to unwind before bed" ritual.
That one, by far, has been the most played. I might have to try it
I will have to look it up. I still haven't played the boardgame version!
It’s been pretty unanimous for a good game and game overall
I guess so! So many recommendations for it in this thread. I have a few gaming friends who have played the game and liked it. I'm eager to try it!
So slightly different but have any of you played Space Team? It's a group app game and if not you really should look it up now!

Anyone play the Scythe app? It's a game I enjoy in person. Haven't put down the $20 to play it on the computer. Thoughts?

I picked it up when it was on sale for like $7. I don't think I'd drop $20 on it, but it's nice for a quick play. On nights that I want to play a game but don't have the time to set it up.
I'll have to keep a look out for a sale. $7 sounds nice. Thanks for the tip.
$7 feels much better for an app than $20. I know a lot of work goes into them but $20 gets you well on your way to the actual board game.
I have not but I REALLY like scythe

I've been playing the Terraforming Mars app a lot. I'm kind of obligated to because I'll be reviewing it next month, but wow I really like it in app form! Same game and everything, but without the fear of sneezing your player board clean. And setup/tear down is a breeze! I have yet to play with other humans, but so far I'm digging the AI.
I'm also playing Lord of the Rings LCG (aka Adventure Card Game) on Steam. Again, I'm reviewing it next month so I'm obligated, but I really, really like it. I haven't played the physical version, but apparently it's a bit different. I don't mind; it's still a great game app-wise. Very happy with it.
I play to play. Meaning, the games are fun and I enjoy it and wouldn't have time to othrewise play were it not for the apps.
I definitely appreciate the ease of setup and no table space needed with the app versions! Although I also like all the bits in the real games too.
"Set up and tear down is a breeze" haha!
I didn't realize that the Lord of the Rings LCG had an app
I think it's relatively new, just off beta.
When does your review come out for it?
Looking forward to it!
I've been playing the Terraforming Mars app a lot. Been at home sick and may brother who has the physical copy of the game has been out of town. I've actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It was a good way to get back into the game since it hasn't made it to the table in a while.
Sorry you’ve been sick man. Looks like a lot of people like terraforming Mars. Do you think it’s the interface or that it’s just something about that game that lends itself to an app?
Thanks - on the mend now. For me it was kind of a "right app, right time" moment where I've been wanting to play the game but it doesn't hit the table a lot because there are only 2 of us interested in playing the game at game nights. So my main interest is in the game itself. The tutorial was NOT great, but the user interface was intuitive enough that by the end of the first AI game I felt comfortable with the set up and felt like I understood what was going on.
Very cool. I also played an app game fairly recently that I can't remember the name of but the tutorial was also pretty bad. Apps need to improve in this area IMO

I have a couple of apps. Through the Ages, Agricola, Sentinels of the Multiverse. These are games that I don’t own that I wanted to try. I don’t really like playing digital versions of board games. I think they lose quite a bit in translation.
