Any thoughts on why games have done up and down as they have?

Moving up or down 10 or 12 places in a month is too much for a ranking, in my opinion. This looks more like a hotness list. Nothing wrong in that, but not really comparable to a ranking like BGG's.

It's pretty subjective.

BGG's ranking are very historical. There are games in there that would not be top 100 if they were released today but when they were out were incredibly influential and got a ton of high ratings that have never been changed.

That's fine but not necessarily perfect either. It depends on what you are looking for. I like them both for what they are. Having a "what's popular now" element isn't worse, just different.

To quote myself from below the BGA list is more relevant to now and the BGG list is more relevant across time. Both good.  Both interesting!

Agricola was number 1 for a short time on BGG, now it is 32. I do not believe that BGG's ranking is as static or as cattering to old games as you say. First ten position's years are 2017, 2015, 2018, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2015, 2017, 2016 and 2005. The first game from the XX century is on position 79 and there are only 4 games on the top 100 that aren't from the XXI century.

The big difference is probably the quantity of user ratings and that is why it is much more difficult for a game to move up 12 positions on BGG in a month. But like we both said, there is nothing wrong with BGA's ranking and top 100. It is simply a smaller database and that is why we see this big jumps and the reason it looks more like a hotness list.

I look forward to these monthly breakdowns. It's part of a real community service, thank you sir.

Thanks!  I like this site and the community so I enjoy doing something that hopefully brings us together.
Luckily I'm pretty good with excel so it doesn't take too much effort to do either.

I also like to see the differences between sites. The board game atlas formula definitely has more churn but I like that. It makes the list more relevant to now which is different from BGG which is more relevant across time. Both are useful and valuable.

I don't know how games have moved in these lists, but it's always surprising to me that #Inis is not in the top 100 on BGG. It seems to me like a game that should be a BGG darling. It's still quite high, at 106 today, but I'd have expected top 100. Perhaps not as many people have played it as is needed to push it there? If so, I'd guess it will make its way into the BGG top 100 shortly, as it's just had a reprint (and I'm one of those who picked it up).

One of the members in my group has it and we've played it a few times. It is a good one. I tend to like most of the light dudes on a map games.#Cyclades was probably my favourite but I played #Lords of Hellas recently and that is in the running now.

For BGG with the size of it's membership and the historical weight behind the ratings (for good or bad) really anything in the top 1000 is a really really good game.  The difference between 100 and 106 is basically zero.

I've never looked at #Lords of Hellas, but I'll have to watch a video about it! I'm finding myself more attracted to dudes on a map games lately.

Yeah 106 is basically top 100, but I expect it will keep creeping up. We'll see!

I was sceptical about it at first but after playing it a couple of times I really enjoyed it!  For reference I have #kemet, #blood rage, #cyclades, and I've played #inis and #lords of Hellas. (And the linking doesn't seem to be working right now.) Forbidden Stars is probably my favourite dudes on a map war game in the heavier end.

So I tend to like the classics but Lords of Hellas as right on there with them.  You can find it on TTSi believe if you want to check it out a bit.

#For Sale is always a weird one to me. It is loved, but it is so old and obscure.
