Which "T" game is the most difficult to pronounce?
12 votes
As the title says, which is the most difficult to pronounce? Feel free to add in other options if you think there are other "T" games out there that can compete!
And to actually have some discussion, here are some questions:
- Have you plalyed a "T" game yet? Why or why not?
- Which of these are you most interested in trying out?

Those two games are always looming over my head... we have a copy of them and I've been meaning to try it out. Hopefully I'll be able to at least play #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar two-handed this weekend or something :)

I have a copy of Tzolk'in as well. It was pretty cheap a while ago and couldn't resist. That's another one that has yet to hit the table. I really like the time aspect to the worker placement. I feel like it adds like 3 dimensions to a typical worker placement mechanic. And the wheels are just sooo cool haha.

If you ever want to play #Teotihuacan: City of Gods on BGA with me...it's on Sarah's short list (which I feel grows longer every day) of games she doesn't like to play with me. LOL

I would love to! I have been meaning to look up how to play it. Maybe 1 more game of #In the Year of the Dragon depending on who wins this one haha. Anyone else is welcome to join as well!

Okay you can start a game when you know the rules then haha. Of course pending results of our current game we will need to play a 3rd

Depending on when you get around to it, you may get Sarah out of having to play it with me on my birthday weekend lol. I'm sure she'll appreciate it. Though I'm positive I would just replace it with something she dislikes equally 🤣

HA I don't have that standing rule for my birthday weekend. Its a good idea. I think I will ask if I can do that instead of a gift haha.

It's definitely a rule I made up this year. I'm getting one on my actual birthday, then the weekend after I'm off so we're going to play at least 2 more. Notably one's she doesn't normally like to play with me. I'm thinking of throwing in #Concordia to make her happy though. I'm not a monster lol

Oh! I should have mentioned. She claims she got me a game for my birthday. I have no idea what this could be as I didn't ask for anything. For some reason she thought I might not like it because it's random and seemed like a "family game" to her. I had her look up the weight on BGG and it's about a 3 sooo definitely not as light as she thinks. I'm more so interested in what it is and why she thinks I wouldn't like it. But I might play this mystery game instead anyway

Oh yeah, 3's are not easy haha. Looking forward to finding out what the mystery game is!

The good news is it falls right in the same space as#Concordia so I think she could teach it and may also *gasp* like it.
But yeah I have some other clues like year published and mechanisms but I honestly have no idea what it could be and I'm not trying to ruin my surprise. This is monumental in our household

Well buys me ones I might like. Granted she said she doesn't think I will...but it's not like my mom would do and just get me some random thing.
TK2187 52 days ago
Oh my gosh my mom does the same thing lol. I've never even heard of the ones she gets me
cbrady748 Premium User52 days ago
Same! And when I do give her a list or even a specific item it doesn't always work out as planned either lol

There will be another poll about what game to torture her with for sure. But yeah I got to give her one she actually likes

I am the one that hijacked the thread by adding #Tlatelolco.
I Hope that y'all will forgive me... LOL.
From my observation, the one that is mispronounced most frequently is Tzolkin. I think that the "tz" sound is a sound that is hard for English speakers to make. I typically hear them pronounce it as "z".
philryuh Owner59 days ago
Two people own it on BGG lol how did you even know about that game?? The Ts sound is commonly used in asian languages so that's definitely easier for me haha

I was very intrigued by when #Teotihuacan: City of Gods came out. I thought it was great that somebody was making a game themed around a great pre-colombian american civilisation. The only other game I knew that was themed like that was #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar. So, I did some research to see what other games out there had that as a theme. In that research I ran into #Tlatelolco. I did look into it a little bit, just out of interests sake.... but, then I forgot about it until you posted this poll. Then, I remembered it, but I didn't remember the exact title, so I had to do just a few searches until I found it.

Okay so I was about to vote for #Tawantinsuyu: The Inca Empire but then I saw #Tlatelolco and was like what the heck does that even say?!

I confess that I don't find the "T Series" to be difficult to pronounce.
I haven't played any of them
#Tzolk'in: The Mayan CalendarIs the one that I am most interested in. But, #Teotihuacan: City of Gods is the one I'm most likely to play.

Now, when you say that you're more likely to play #Teotihuacan: City of Gods, is it because of the solo mode?
Marshwiggle92 Supporter2 months ago
Nope. However, I did grow up as a native bilingual, and have since become a trilingual.
TK2187 59 days ago
That's so cool. I'm typical American, bad at languages. I'm even 3rd generation Chinese but still only know enough words to order dim sum and ask for ice water haha.
Marshwiggle92 Supporter59 days ago
Well, I consider myself to be blessed rather than being "better." The only reason I grew up bilingual is because my parents considered it important. The only reason I speak Spanish now is because I moved to Central America. It isn't because I went to fancy schools or anything like that.

I have played #Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar enough to know that I am not very good at it haha. My friends tell me that #Teotihuacan: City of Gods is very good (they just call it Teo lol). I'll get to that one eventually. Both are on Board Game Arena (which I feel like I can't abbreviate here haha) if you would like to try them out!
Haven't heard of any of the others.
