Fortnite-Esque Board Game?

I just played a few games of Fortnite tonight to unwind, and was wondering...are there any battle royale-type games out there? Adrenaline emulates a first-person shooter really well (and I love the game), but what about a battle royale? Curious if there's anything like that for tabletop.

And I'm not talking Monopoly: Fortnite (nice try, though).  :)

Would you consider Wildlands kinda like that?

I can see similarities, but ultimately I’d say it’s still pretty different. I understand Battle Bears the Board Game is something of a battle royals type game. Just learned about that one the other day.

I hadn’t hear about that one until now. I’ll see what BGG has to say about it.

It’s pretty new, as in just launched or is launching on KS. I’m definitely  interested to see how it does.

I know I’ve heard about a game like that but I can’t remember what it’s name was. I think the podcast I was listening to said that for all the strengths of the board game at the end of the day it really just made them want to play the video game. There are so many things that board games do that are better than video games but there comes a point when a board game is attempting to emulate a video game that you might as well just play the video game instead.

That makes sense. I think if a similar mechanic were to be included in a tabletop game, the game itself would have to be very different in order to work (and not make people long for the video game).

Agreed. You’d need to distill the mechanics that make Fortnite compelling and then translate those mechanics to a board game. I think if you just set out to copy Fortnite exactly the resulting board game might not be very fun.

I remember hearing about a game that has a storm kind of mechanic. Where the board gets smaller and smaller. No idea what it is, but the concept sounded fun.

That would certainly be an interesting mechanic. Similar (kind of to some degree) to Survive! Escape from Atlantis which loses a piece of the island at the end of every turn. Definitely adds some chaotic tension. I’d love to see the “storm” mechanic implemented somehow.
